Walking With God: A Journey through the Bible

This book is a must for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding of the Bible. If you wish to read the entire Bible along with this bookI would strongly suggest purchasing The Great Adventure: the Bible Timeline Chart. While there's a brief description of the time periods with the narrative books of the Bible, there's so much more with the chart, including the supplemental books that delve deeper into understanding the narrative books. The authors do a wonderful job of discussing each section of the timeline and providing amazing insight. My goal has been to read the entire Bible. But it's so easy to get loss with the reading, especially with some of the books from the Old Testament. But their insight has opened my eyes in understanding the progression of the Bible from Genesis to the New Testament in ways I could have never imagined. There's a wonderful companion book that can help keep you on a daily 90 day track to read all the narrative books from the beginning of the Old Testament into the New Testament call "the Bible Timeline guided Journal" by Sarah Christmyer. Each day she lists what chapters to ready and by the 90th day you've got a complete picture of the Bible. Her book used with this book has been soooo helpful for me. But even if you just wish to get an overview of the Bible without reading the Bible itself this book will provide insight.

I love this book and already have it on a kindle. It has such wonderful insights and explanations for the various books of the Bible. Just wanted a paper copy too.

Wonderful telling of "the story" narrative that is the Holy Bible from beginning to end. Allows one to understand God's word and its hope to all of us.

This book was a Christmas gift that was on my wish list. It is an excellent companion to my Bible in a year podcast. It is excellent for aiding in understanding the context and background of the Bible. I enhanced my reading and understanding of the Bible. It helped to open my mind and Spirit more fully to God’s word and the biblical story. I like the fact that is not written in a high academic or theological way. It is written in an easier and enjoyable manner. I finished the entire book in only a couple of weeks. It will be a prized reference and permanent addition to my spiritual library and journey.

This is an excellent book to read. Easy to read. Very understanding and it makes a lot of sense When you're trying to read the bible and some of the historical stuff just doesn't make Since this book puts an ingrid contact of what was going on during that time. This book is broken into some of the books of the Bible the Narrative Books and can be used in a book club Bible study. Concise and helpful information

I am about 1/3 of the way through this book. I wish I had had it when doing the actual bible study with Jeff Cavins last year. The bible study gives the big picture of salvation history, and this book delves in more detail the who, what, and why. It is important to know the original meaning of the Greek or Hebrew words used in scripture as well as the cultural and historical meaning behind the event, without which many events seem arbitrary. There are many connections I would never think of, many subtleties I would never guess at that are actually important to understanding what God is trying to teach us in these stories and histories. Everything is important--each word, each phrase, the order of stories, the meaning behind the detail. For example, I have always skipped through the laws and details of the Levitical priesthood (boring), but one of the things the details of God's command for the ornate garments (details of stones and their colors on the breastplate of the priest)and materials used in the building of the ark, etc...is to show us that the very best is to be used to worship and glorify God. Hence the importance the Catholic Church places on the beauty of her churches, priestly robes, altar, tabernacle, etc...is clearly indicated by Scripture, God Himself! A barren, plain church (as was frequently built during 60's,70's, and 80's in the name of giving to the poor)does not glorify God and does nothing to bring hearts and minds to Him in worship, thereby neither serving God, nor supporting the people in becoming the charitable people God wants them to be through true worship. Truly fascinating, very good reading, and makes me love to read the Bible.

Great explanations, really clear and easy to read. Will get a lot of great insights from this book.

Grateful for these men that took time to give us and share this wisdom with us, I felt that this maybe education that would take a few years of schooling to do just out into one book for the average Joe who doesn’t have time to go to some Bible college to learn for years I love it! Well worth the read if you’re trying to grow in understanding & biblical knowledge.

Just right for a religious person who wants to read about the most valuable parts of the bible.

A clear and interesting journey into the Scripture. I've been following the Ascension Press for a few months and particularly I listen every day to the podcast hosted by Fr. Mike. This book helps a lot to understand every book of the Bible and explain very clearly the hidden messages and the connections between the stories. Very very recommended.

This wonderful book gives important insights from Genesis to Revelation. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a deeper understanding of the Holy Bible.
