Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome

Arrived today and we couldn't be happier! I can be kinda clumbsy, and proved it when i dropped it... and had to watch the little guy bounce down three stairs (sigh). But it still works! Glad i bought it. PROs: very easy to use. One switch does everything - turns it ON/OFF and selects which of two wood block tones to listen to (TIC' or TOCK). And it's LOUD(!) with a volume control but still small enuf to easily fit in my guitar case (and b'cuz it already bounced down the stairs - i don't have to worry about it not working when i take it out of the case!) CONs: none. Had to smile when reading reviews wher some dint like the fact that this metronome increases by 2, 4, or 6 beats, and not 1 beat at a time. I mean, when tapping ur foot to a beat, can u even distinguish between 128 bpm and 129 bpm? Be honest :) This is the perfect metronome... for me anyway :)

for an inexpensive metronome, this little seiko is ideal. i didn't know quite what to expect when i ordered this, but i love it! the other positive reviews about this are absolutely correct. this metronome uses a 9 volt battery (i don't know how long the battery will last, because i've only owned this for a couple weeks, but it seems ok), a really convenient front dial to adjust the beat timing (just turn it, it turns smoothly), and two tones to choose from. the tones are sort of alike, and changed by a little switch on the side; the first is a clock-like tick, the second is a wood-like sound, which i prefer, but neither tone is at all bothersome. nobody is going to start yelling at you to turn the thing off (unless you're married). the metronome has both a volume control on one side, and a light that illuminates the beat at the top...you can turn the volume down and just use the light, or turn up the volume..it gets pretty loud....i use it turned way down and it's plenty loud enough. the beats are numbered, so you can find the setting you want easily. the numbers are kinda' small, but you don't need to squint. this is a perfectly designed, easy to use little metronome, and, no, i don't own any stock in the company. in fact this is the second product review i've ever written on amazon (the other was a dvd movie review). already my guitar playing is better...i am going to buy another one of these after christmas, it's just so useful. a great little product!

For the money, this is a great metronome. The build quality is very good. All of the dials and switches feel solid and work smoothly. I've owned two DB-90 Dr. Beats, and the build quality was terrible, so this is refreshing to find on a low cost model. Like most quartz metronomes, it doesn't have beat subdivisions, but it does have a volume control. It's not quite as loud as some other quartz metronomes, but still much louder than a digital. It also has two beat pitches. This is helpful when the frequency of your instrument blends too much with the metronome, making it difficult to hear. There are two reference pitches as well. A for orchestra or guitar tuning, and B-flat for band. The strobe light is just the right size and brightness for me. If you're looking for a well built, basic metronome, this one is very good.

I bought an older version of this Seiko metronome from a local music store in the 1990's. It was essentially perfect: simple, easy to use, accurate, durable, outstanding quality. Like a fool, I gave it away years later, still running perfectly. Since then, I've had bad luck with metronomes. Most of the ones for sale on Amazon are shiny garbage. I decided to buy this Seiko, remembering the outstanding quality of the one I used years ago. But immediately I could tell that Seiko's standards have gone down. The case is very flimsy. It just feels "cheap". And the battery it came with, made by Guangzhou Hi-Watt Battery Co. Ltd., was DOA. Luckily I had a Duracell 9-volt sitting around. Otherwise, I would have just returned the whole thing to Amazon. The metronome works, once I put in a good battery. We'll see how long it lasts.

After struggling to rehearse and record for days with horrible online metronomes and the jarring click in my DAW, I ordered the Seiko SQ50V, and what a difference! First impressions: exceptional craftsmanship in an item that cost around $25; the plastic is solid, almost reminiscent of the old bakelite stuff. The dial is smooth with serrated edges that make it easy to adjust. Two different sounds, one low, one high, both Woody and musical. A visible light as well. A volume control so you don't have to adjust your level to hear properly. A nice built-in stand is very stable, again so it is easy to use and see. I am very happy! I should say that after 48 years playing music, I've used a LOT of metronomes of all types and quality, and this one really stands out as a solid professional tool.

My violin teacher recommended this type because the ones that are credit card size are not loud enough. This is loud and excellent quality! Works Perfect!

There are plenty of free metronome apps with way more features than this physical device but that's not the point. The beauty of the SQ50 is that it is so simple and immediate. No fussing with apps or buttons. Simply switch on and rotate dial to the desired tempo. I was taken aback by the price and so also bought the Sondery ProBeat to compare as it was half the price of the SQ50... but I'll be returning the ProBeat. While it was perfectly fine and has a few more features... there is something zen like about using the seiko and so I'm happy to pay more for it.

Simply great. Does exactly what you need. No complicated features no one uses. And the best part, it is the quickest metronome to change the beat setting. Nothing can beat the dial design. Fortget the apps where you have to find it, open it, wait while it loads and then set the setting, or those expensive button operated ones when you have to press the button hundred times to set the desired beat. Takes second to change the beat when you are moving from one piece to another. Less time fidgeting with metronome, more time for practice. I used to hate practicing with metronome, with that one I love it because it's not a chore anymore to set it to the desired beat.

Práctico para cambiar rápidamente entre velocidades de metrónomo estándar (las que tendría uno mecánico). Si por ejemplo en la misma sesión practicas escalas a 92bpm y luego practicas un adagio a 69bpm, es más práctico cambiar rápidamente que en un metrónomo digital de botones sin dial. Tiene dos tonos para los golpes. También indica los aires: Largo, larghetto, adagio, etc. que siempre es una buena referencia. Lo mejor de todo es que tiene volumen variable. Único punto en contra: Si bien se ve y se siente resistente, el plástico negro es brilloso y luce un poco barato. Un poco como un juguete. Criterios estéticos aparte, es una excelente y muy práctica herramienta.

Not accurate. It's not consistent. Also I was encouraged by the fact it's sound was supposed to be natural but it's not. It's not crisp clear. Not recommended

E' preciso e me lo aspettavo, perché è Seiko. Si accende con un tasto, la velocità si regola girando una ghiera e il battito si distingue benissimo al suono del pianoforte e a maggior ragione, degli strumenti a corda. Ha l'uscita per le cuffie. Ha in dotazione una batteria, che si scarica presto. Credo che sia di prova e basta comprarne una a lunga durata, che garantirà a lungo il funzionamento. Molto leggero, di buona fattura e di dimensioni ridotte.
