Great Value for an Average User
You would be surprised how many lights are out there, some costing hundred of dollars but worth it. But for your average user whose life does not depend on light, this is a decent deal.I've had this light for about four months now, and while I tried to EDC it there were a few issues. I'll break it down into the Pros/Cons for those who like that format of info.Pros:-Rechargable, both by dynamo hand crank or by solar.-Price-Availability (walmart, home depot, etc)-Carabiner!-Easily locatable orange color (ninjas don't need lights, so why go for boring black :P)-This is a pro and a con-it gives off about 27 lumens? That's enough for not tripping over stuff in the forest, but not bright enough to put a good spot in the distance if you really need detail. On the other hand if there are others you will ruin their night vision with lumens like 100.-The light is a good mix of spot and flood, but mostly spot.-The on button prevents accidental turning on or off.Cons:-Recharging takes a long time.-You might be able to hack it, but Energizer does not support changing out the batteries.-The hand crack is small for my medium/large hands, and cranking it smoothly is a little inefficient-Carabiner is small, and can only hook into small areas. But, it is large enough to hook into a belt loop and be the right direction for charging.-I don't know what kind of battery it is. I don't know about Ni-Ca or Ni-Mh, but I know with lithium heat is bad and decreases service life of battery. The sun is hot.-If the battery is a poor quality, the charge it can hold will eventually be nil, and you'll have to buy a new light. That is unless I hack it, and come up with another review :D-No defense features, but this is your average lightTips: There was a gentleman who said his white rubber got cracked after charging in the hot sun. Try removing the rubber bit, there is nothing holding it in place. That's all I can think of, thanks for reading, and hope this helps.

BRIGHTEST CRANK FLASHLIGHT
I bought all the following items. I’ll list the items in order of the BRIGHEST top down. I’ve taken a picture of these products, located at: http://i44.tinypic.com/beep9h.jpgHopefully Amazon doesn’t remove the link.Energizer Solar Rechargeable 3-LED Carabiner Crank Light - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JILY9G/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This is the brightest little solar/crank flashlight I bought. It’s durable and did I say it’s the brightest? This is worth your purchase.21st CG 6019 Waterproof Hand Crank and Solar Flashlight - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008475HEU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This is the next brightest crank flashlight. And the best part(s) is it’s waterproof AND solar. This is worth your purchase.Ambient Weather WR-111B Emergency Solar Hand Crank AM/FM/NOAA Digital Radio, Flashlight, Cell Phone Charger with NOAA Certified Weather Alert & Cables - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071BTJPI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This is nice to have for emergencies. The light is still not as bright as the two above it. However, for what it does, I give it give stars. This is worth your purchase.Ambient Weather WR-089 Compact Emergency Solar Hand Crank AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio, Flashlight, Smart Phone Charger with Cables - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004068AWU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This thing works as advertised. It is the little brother of the WR-111B model. It’s not as bright, but is smaller in size.Energizer Weatheready 3-LED Carabineer Rechargeable Crank Light, Red - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MFK7BS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This decently bright, but the solar paneled version is anywhere from 50% to 100% brighter.Garrity Power Lite 3 LED Crank Light - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001L1RU8C/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. In my opinion, this is not worth it. It is big and bulky, and the light is not as bright as others. For your money, you are better off buying other products.2pc Wind-Up Flashlight Set - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XU7G6Q/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. These items are good to have only as a backup. Throw them in your car or something. However, if you have a few more bucks, spending it on a better product like the solar powered Energizer one is a better idea. These flashlights are weak and very slippery. They can easily fall out of your hands.

When the crank breaks, this nice flashlight is not so useful.
The Good: Handy, good light, works as it should (until it doesn't).The Bad: The crank is not robust, mine broke.Overall a good design, bus a weak crank is its Achilles heel. Once the crank breaks, you're left with solar, and that is less than wonderful. You can crank this thing from nearly exhausted battery power to strong light in a minute, crank longer and you'll have light for an hour or two. Solar charging is nice but not all that practical. The whole thing gets really hot, not great for batteries, and it takes forever to charge. If Energizer would just add a little more plastic to the crank where it pivots on the steel pin, this would be a five star flashlight. But with the crank disabled - its main source of recharging power - it's not that useful. Come on, Energizer, you can do better. Give us something that doesn't break so easily.

Make this your backup emergency light
I've had two of these lights on every camping trip of the last 2 years. When I'm home, I keep them in the bedside drawers in case of emergency. Yes, I've got an expensive primary light that is my "go to", but inevitably, I end up using these things a lot. They are bright and durable and they always work. Period. 10 quick cranks and you've got all the light you need to take care of business.Ok, they're an odd shape, and I can't speak to the solar capability as I always just use the crank. I'm sure if you beat on the crank it will break, or if you submerge them in water, they won't like it. But if that's your concern, go buy an expensive light. These Lights should sit in your glove box, your drawer, your closet, your camping gear, and they will be a fantastic backup light, always there when you need it.
