This is one of the hardest working, easiest to use, and longest lasting marine tools you will ever have!
Other than a few highly specialized, task-specific nautical tools a sailor or deck hand might use, the Myerchin WF300P Generation 2 Captain Professional Wood Handle Folding Marlin Spike Marine Knife is one of the most helpful marine tool a sailor could keep in its sheath, on his belt, ready to go to work at a moment's notice. It is an excellent working size for sailors with average to large size hands, and its marine stainless steel, partially serrated, traditional sheepsfoot blade, with a shackle slot machined into it, arrived with a very sharp edge, straight from the box. This knife's blade is great for easily cutting through sheets, lines and other rigging on a boat when needed, and its 2-1/2" locking marlin spike is perfectly shaped and sized for quickly and easily opening the tightest knots in a boat's lines, plus this knife is very helpful in making repairs to fishing nets. Its hardwood handle scales and the knife's frame have properly sized and spaced finger grooves shaped into them along with a finger choil that provide a secure hand grip when using the knife, even when wet. Its double LinerLock mechanism allows both the blade and the marlin spike to be opened and locked in place independently when they are being used, and both the blade and the marlin spike can be unlocked and closed independently depending on your needs. The blade also has a small "Open Assist Lever" tab on its spine that you can press with one finger when the knife is closed, partially opening the knife's blade and permitting you to open the blade fully and lock it in place, all with one hand, which comes in handy often when working with this knife. The knife's lanyard ring allows the user to attach one end of a lanyard to the knife while the other end of the lanyard may be attached to the user's belt, a belt loop on their pants, or to the knife's nylon sheath, with a carabiner, allowing the user to retrieve the knife easily if the knife is accidentally dropped while in use. The knife also comes with a pocket clip installed, if that is how the user prefers to wear and carry it. This knife's frame does not have a "solid bottom" like you find on many folding knives, which permits you to see completely through the handle, making it easy for debris and saltwater to pass completely through the knife's frame, helping keep the knife's mechanism clean, and allowing air to pass through the handle, helping it to dry out completely. The stainless steel Allen head screws make it easy to disassemble the knife for more through cleaning, lubricating, or repairs, then easily reassemble it to put it back into service. This knife is a little pricey when its price is compared to the price of other similar marlin spike marine knives. But when you compare this knife feature to feature to other similar marlin spike marine knives, you will quickly see that the other similar marlin spike marine knives can't come close to matching this Myerchin WF300P Generation 2 Captain Professional Wood Handle Folding Marlin Spike Marine Knife. If you still can't swing this knife's price, you can step down in price to the man-made G10 handle Myerchin BF300P Generation 2 Captain Professional Folding Marlin Spike Marine Knife, or, if your hands are smaller in size, you can take another step down in price with the smaller (3.5" total length versus 4.625" total length for the Captain version) Myerchin BF377 Generation 2 Crew Professional G10 Handle Folding Marlin Spike Marine Knife. Whichever model Myerchin Generation 2 Professional Folding Marlin Spike Marine Knife best fits your hands and budget, you can rest assured you have a marine tool on your belt or in your pocket that will help you do so much tough work, so much easier, for many, many years to come.

There are many things I like about this knife
There are many things I like about this knife. 1. The finish of the stainless steel. It has a high luster to it, so it probably has a high concentration of chromium in the steel. 2. The use of stainless steel Allen head screws. This allows you to take the knife apart for cleaning or for repair. 3. The belt clip. It's stiff but springy at the same time. Looks like it'll hold up for years to come. 4. The fact that there is no 'bottom' to the knife. You can see right through the handle between the blade and the marlin spike. This keeps dirt out and allows salt water to pass through the knife and air in to help dry it out. Very smart design. 5. The shackle key. I own a sailboat so I'll use the knife for cutting sheets and lines and sometimes, I need to get pliers to work a shackle pin. This knife takes care of that issue by building a shackle key right into the blade. 6. The Lanyard attachment ring. It's sturdy and well placed. 7. The locking mechanism for both the blade and marlin spike work great and really lock both items into place. Only a couple things that could use some improvement: 1. The case needs a wider slot for belts. 2. The case could use something to stiffen it on the inside because otherwise it tends to fold up when you remove the knife, if you're doing any kind of activity. 3. The base of the marlin spike could be a bit thicker, lending more lateral support to the spike but it appears to work just fine otherwise. A good knife and if you sail or work with ropes, you'll enjoy both the functionality and form factor of this Myerchin knife.

the perfect sailors knife
There are knives, and then there are knives.... which ever of those two (the latter I assume) is squarely where the Myerchin Gen 2 Captain Pro belongs. Every sailor needs a sharp knife at all times, and one that can sever a thick line with a stroke or two. The serrations on this blade are perfect for this task, as is the high grade stainless. You can't cut a line in an emergency if the knife is difficult to open- once again this knife excels. The blade slot, which doubles as a lock pin opener, is perfect for very easy one handed opening. Closing is the only very minor issue- it is easy enough to push the locking bar aside, but some knives are a little easier. Those knives, for example the cheap and simple West Marine version, have vastly greater drawbacks in other areas. It is also not possible to have a closing button, and that position is taken up with the exceptional marlin spike. Top it off with a study stainless belt clip and a velcro belt pouch, and you have the perfect sailors knife. I will always carry it, and doubt I'll even find a better one.

Highest quality, as always from Myerchin
I've been carrying a Myerchin captain knife for almost 15 years. I've lost a few and donated a few to airport police officers rather than throw them away (occasionally forgot I had it on me when leaving for a trip), and have made a few of those police officers Myerchin fans. This is the first wood-handled Myerchin Captain Pro that I've owned, and I have to say that it is the most beautiful knife I've owned (other than an offshore version with a wood handle and sheath). The Gen 2 knife is the best of the Myerchin line, and as with every other Myerchin knife I've owned, the quality is exceptional. The blade holds an edge well (even though I use my EDC knife as every kind of tool there is), and the hardware never seems to loosen up with use. If you're looking for a high-quality EDC knife or genuine sailor tool, get this knife!

Great multipurpose tool for sailors!
The shackle key on the blade is handy and easy to use. Same with the knot release tool. I have no idea how someone could open the blade with one hand, yet the blade is supremely sharp and the lock open mechanisms are very secure. I can feel the quality in every aspect of this knife and definitely recommend this tool for any sailor for function and safety if a line needs to be quickly cut while under sail.
