A rare find. This one's out of print.
I used to have this album, but gave it to a friend and I wanted to replace it. It has Hoyt's best songs from his early years. The recording quality on a few songs show how old they are. Some of the selections cannot be found on his other compilations. This is a rare find, as it is out of print. So if you are a Hoyt Axton fan, this is one for your collection.

Hoyt
Not exactly gold but maybe bronze would be a better title. It has some very nice tracks but the main are just fillers in my opinion and I don't say that lightly having been a Hoyt Axton fan since the early/mid seventies. I bought this album to satisfy my curiosity and don't necessarily regret that decision but don't pay too much for this album.

Rockin' Hoyt
These early Axton cuts lack the warmth and sonorous depth of Hoyt's great deep baritone pipes as heard in his wonderful '80s recordings. The production, sound quality, and musicianship suffers by comparison, as well. There is some interesting music here, but if you like it "nice and easy," mainly country, this one will give you "nice and rough," mainly rock.

2.5 stars
These are early Hoyt Axton recordings. And the main draw is the cd has 24 songs. He was trying to find his style with these songs. And his later stuff is better. There are cover songs on here like We'll Sing In The Sunshine. But he wrote most of these songs. Even if I hadb't heard of too many of them. And it does have his version of Greenback Dollar. Which I had also never heard by him. It depends on how big of a Hoyt Axton fan you are. If you would get this.
