To set this up I soaked the filter in cold water for ten minutes and put a bowl on top of it to keep it submerged in a clean deeper bowl. Then drink away or use the water for tea, coffee or even making your oatmeal in the morning. One person told me it might also be great for filling up my pets' water bowl. The only instructions that were not given were for how often to clean the pitcher. I myself will have to use my own judgment on that.
