A sharp mind, like a healthy body, is subject to the same rule of nature: Use it or lose it Need a calculator just to work out a 15 percent service charge? Turn to this revised and updated edition of All the Math You'll Ever Need, the friendliest, funniest, and easiest workout program around. In no time, you'll have total command of all the powerful mathematical tools needed to make numbers work for you. This step-by-step personal math trainer: Refreshes practical math skills for your personal and professional needs, with examples based on everyday situations. Review: Get the first edition - I'm a math instructor at a technical college. I needed a short, sweet, simple, and inexpensive book to help folks with their remedial math. This book keeps it lean while hitting all the truly important topics. I also enjoyed a lot of the author's commentary about learning math in general. I do recommend the first edition over the second, however. The second edition is a collaboration with a "real math teacher" who decided to add some topics, increase the font size, and otherwise expand the book into a big fat standard math class monster. (I admit I'm going a little hyperbolic here, but it's because I've really come to hate such things over my 25 years of teaching.) The original has the appeal of an economics professor (if I recall correctly) talking matter-of-factly to a bunch of unprepared students who need a math refresher before they can understand his core course topics. It's like, Just the Facts Ma'am, nice and concise -- and I do appreciate the thinner feel. Disclaimer: I followed this book to write my lectures and assignments, and for that purpose it was marvelous. Works well for assigned reading, too. But, I could not say for certain how well it would work for pure self-study -- it would depend somewhat on your affinity with reading. If you're in an economics course at a 4-year college, it's probably near perfect. Review: Excellent self teaching book!!!!!!!!! - I took a civil service test at my job and failed on the first try. Before taking the test again the second time, i purchased this book, studied each chapter & took each test over and over. The results is I scored a high mark & passed the Civil exam with this book. It is an excellent source if you are returning to math after being out of school. It takes you back to basics to bring fast results solving problems and prepares you within a reasonable amount of time. You won't need to memorize a bunch of formulas or use a calculator. Each chapter explains in detail to help you understand. There are numerous self and review tests at the end of the book. The teaching material is not complicated. Simple and straight to the point to help you understand everyday math. If you lost your touch with math this book will revive you with numbers to help you master them with no fear. Buy this book if you need help with understanding math. It won't disappointt!!

Wonderful Resource. Just One Thing Missing.
Pretty much as advertised this book does cover almost all the most important math you need for everyday use. A one star hit for what I think is the only thing missing TVM: PMT, present and future value calculations are essential knowledge to understand everything from mortgage and car payments to retirement and financial planning skills. Even if the author took a high level approach and pointed the reader to online resources Iโd be happy. Other than that this is a wonderful book.

Back to School
This book is basically a short refresher course on highschool mathematics. Just like the title says, it's all you'll ever need in your daily life- and then some. I managed to work my way through it in just over two months, picking my way through it day by day. When I was finished, I was surprised and pleased with how much I learned. A well put together book. Six months later, though, I am slowly forgetting. Will need to go back and work through it again some time this year. Like exercise, you have to keep at it. Make a scheduel, I used a big piece of card paper as a bookmark and kept track of the date and pages I worked through that day on it. Don't write in the actual book. It was also useful to cover the answer section, which is a bit too easy to see. Now on the economics book in this series by the same author, the math book was a good warm-up for that.

What every student and parent should use to be a success!
I used this book to teach middle school, as a way to make sure students have the true basics to get through life! Teachers quit insuring students memorize the โFACTSโ. You can count on your fingers & toes for the ones that elude you butโฆ.If you know most of these basics, in your memory, the rest are โfingertipsโ -possible! (You know 8+8 is16, so you can quickly add 1 to recall 9+8=17! If you know 12x12 =144 you can use your fingertips that 13x12 is one more 12 to add to 144 to solve this.) You may โcheatโ, a little, if you have memorized the most facts! Next, you use money to change to fractions to percentages which will make algebra a breeze! They can then be told the steps in shopping. If you are at a sale of 25% off, you learn you donโt need to take a quarter of the price then subtract. You know you are going to pay 75% or 3/4 the or multiple by .75 to know the real price! Most sales are easier! Sorry, there are so many easy tricks and tips so students donโt hate math! Life can be easier with the BASICS at your disposal. You can guesstimate prices before you โoverpaidโ I am so interested in helping people have the tools like arithmetic to make life easy! Parents buy this Book to help your children so they donโt suffer by being FACT-limited in life!

Good if you need to start with the basics
If your really basic math skills are a little rusty this is a good book to review with. The very first chapter starts out by reviewing the times table and you build from there. You work your way up to division, fractions, percentages, negative numbers and then into algebra, geometry and statistics. This book also covers interest rates, personal finances and business math. His explanations are clear and you are given some sample problems to work with at the end of each chapter, however, the answers to these sample questions are right below the question, so I would have to cover them up just so I wouldn't look at them. It would be better if these answers were in the back of the book. I also found a few errors that seemed a bit glaring especially since this is a math book! If you need a math book that gives you more opportunity to practice the problems and more explanation, I would suggest also looking into Practical Math: Success in 20 Minutes a Day.

Helped me get my GED/ Diploma
I purchased this book because I had taken the math portion to my High School Diploma test twice and failed by 10 points. This book really helped me. I needed to brush up on my fractions, basic algebra ,and percent's. I would highly suggest this book if you are trying to learn or brush up on basic math. While some of this book can be a bit vague, it speaks in lemans terms, so the average joe can grasp what the book is trying to teach. I think this book is worth every penny I paid ($15) , The seller shipped it super fast and It only took me about 3 weeks of studying and I finally got my diploma after two failed attempts. Fantastic book!

Great Book!
I purchased a copy of this book several years ago when I was a math tutor for high school, Special Ed. kids. It truly has every thing about basic math that you would ever want to know. I used it and I let them use it. Two years ago, my 40 year old nephew decided to go to college and was worried about having to do basic math so I sent him my copy of this book. After being retired for 7 years or so, my 15 year old granddaughter came to live with us and I really needed my book again. So, I order another one in order to help her with her math. Like I said, a great book!

I'm kinda lost...
So I'm a recent english learner and I'm new to maths as well. I have spend past week mastering the x table and have always been pretty good at addition. Although I seem to be missing some functional skills and am going to be sitting my GCSE soon. My question is, how on earth dose 623+445 become 5073? Is there something I'm missing here? I'm still now researching the concept of adding a 0 at the end of things is that why my calculator and brain keep telling me the answer to be 1068? Or is this book faulty? Iv really been enjoying the guidance and all but cant move past this, I'm missing something here please help guys an gals.

Love this book!
Can't say enough. A math teacher friend accolades this book too. It is ACTUALLY even a bit more than all the math an average person will ever need. Great for homeschooling and remedial.
