Batteries are not included but are AAA type so easy to get hold of when needed. The battery compartment is easy to open with no tools. The design is simple and stylish. They live in a cupboard most of the times but if you have a small kitchen, these wouldn’t looks out of place on the worktop or on a shelf. They function well, with 1g increments. It’s easy to switch between units, even mid-measure. Personally I don’t use the ml function on scales because different liquids weigh different amounts for the same volume. I tested these scales and 100ml of water was measured correctly, but oil was not - the scales said 100ml but the measuring jug was just under 95ml. (Not the fault of the scales, just something to be aware of). I like the compact size of these scales but found when using a large measuring bowl or saucepan it was hard to read the numbers as they are located just above the bamboo panel. Not a major issue but sometimes it is useful to be able to measure directly into a container rather than into a smaller jug or bowl first.
