Is there a secret you would kill to know? In this electrifying, suspense-packed thriller from director Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Memento), Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play magicians whose cutthroat attempts to best each other plunge them into deadly deceptions. Scarlett Johansson also stars as the stage assistant who's both pawn and player in their rivalry. A brilliant supporting cast (including Michael Caine and David Bowie). An ingenious story. An astonishing payoff. Once you see THE PRESTIGE, you'll want to see it again. Watch closely. Review: One of the top films of the decade - a twisted tale exploring the pain of 'not being seen' - Here we see a pair of Magicians, like filmmakers, doing what they can to draw attention. A profound story, it explores some very hurt characters feelings - of 'enoughness' and 'being seen'. For me it resonates with the missing father figure who could have approved and blessed these characters but instead the situation breaks down and the pains of the magicians come to centre stage. The real trick is to get your attention but in reality who do we really beg attention from, for most people that is ones parents/partner/love who we wanted attention from but didn't get. The films themes include split attention, split personalities, twos and symmetry, so as the audience our attention is also split, mimicking the brokenness of attention the characters feel and incompleteness. Magic tricks help the audience to 'escape' or take break from reality as do movies but this film hints at the idea that that is not what the audience really wants. Review: Great movie - Seen on a yt short that it was rated a 10/10 so gave it a chance fair to say it comes close to a 10/10 great plot that keeps you guessing and 2 unexpected twists at the end

Very Good But No Subtitles
The Prestige is a really good film, let down by Amazon's lack of subtitles. I never give away plot and denouement, however to paraphrase the IMDB: following a tragic accident, two stage magicians battle to create the ultimate illusion and destroy everything they have in order to win. "The Prestige" is the sort of magical meta-cinema movie that director Christopher Nolan does well. And it's suitable for the family, even for tutting aunts and grandparents. Sumptuous locations, costumes, and photography all combine for a real work of art. The writing, direction, and the acting, are all superb. Christopher Bale as usual turns in a memorable performance; we British shouldn't complain about his character or his accent. Michael Caine and Jugh Jackman never disappoint us, and the supporting cast is solid (flawless). Still, if you can't hear the movie then you can't rate it properly; Amazon gets an average score this time. The Prestige entertains and intrigues with its sub-plots, twists and reveals. I recommend you watch it, if you can hear it, and that is my only problem with this film and with Amazon: not enough subtitles. Amazon needs to put more effort into subtitling for the hard of hearing. Those most affected by these failures are the people who can't hear. Movie and TV sound jump between clear speech and diction, to mumbled; from loud to whispers. Unfortunately for some audiences, actors will mumble when they're not on stage in a theatre. And like so many streaming services and retailers, the Amazon audience suffers from a paucity of subtitles which would include more of them. Subtitles would complete the experience and comprehension, and the enjoyment they pay for. Some would say that the world is made for able and healthy people; it's made for those who can see and hear perfectly. It really is not and it shouldn't be.

One of the best...
This film is wonderful. I saw it when it came out and it was the best film that year. It has aged well and remains a classic.

One of the greatest movies of all time so far
It’s just too good lol. Unpredictable plot. Good plot twists. And the plot twists aren’t random - when you re-watch the second time and so on, you realise how signs were pointed to the plot twists the whole time but you didn’t realise. When you watch this movie for the second time it’s like you’re watching a whole different movie lol absolutely love it I’ve seen it like 5 times I think

Overrated
Very over rated. Confused script. Shame as it could have been so much better. Nolan's films always style over substance

time goes by but human nature will never change ...
As in headline if you are a producer , writer , story teller -> if you can show human nature to poeople in right way you get masterpiece of movie. Add to that a bit of magic, mystic, history ( Tesla ), very very very good cast ( Scarlett Johansson and all ) people will get lost like me. Got hypnotised by this movie, and even now thinking about all of this _> and BAD human nature. Man will do anything to go one more step in front of another man. MUST be better, must steal his trick, must find out on how does he do it!!! Finally someone get killed but... they don't stop, they push just one little step to be ahead , even if stack is as high as human live . . . on every performance. Not without reason at the beginning of this movie they show magician killing a little bird for sake of good trick and say "I'm getting my hands dirty" ( and you add "with blood" )No, they don't stop, ohhh what a movie. And the best part ??? - It really could happen, there is no going "too much" in terms of human bad nature. This movie for some reason brings to my mind GLADIATOR, simiIiar in emptions, good/bad character, beautifull woman, yes similiar. Now, I'm not going to spoil it, just watch it !

Surprisingly good
Admittedly, most Christopher Nolan films I've seen have been pretty good, so when a friend recommended I see this, I figured I had nothing to lose. The acting is brilliant, both Jackman and Bale give their all as bitter rivals. Michael Caine can just do no wrong, and gives such an authentic perfomance. My only real gripe about the film is that Scarlett Johansson is seriously under used. But that's it, nothing else to complain about. The story is clever and draws you in, and it was heart warming to see David Bowie in the role of Tesla. A film well worth watching and some great twists
