The Affinity Photo Manual: A Step-by-Step New Users Workbook Paperback – March 4, 2020

When one looks at the Affinity Photo program it is extremely daunting because it is so packed with options. There are many things that are NOT intuitive--you just have to learn them.That is why I was delighted that, as a beginner, when I had a question, my email was actually answered by a human THE SAME DAY. This is a much bigger deal that one might think, because the companies that offer online programs wash their hands of you as soon as you have paid. They offer an AI robot with about the reasoning power of a frog. They have websites that are not at all user friendly.This is book learning, which means you can read it over and over until you understand it. You don't have to scroll back thru a video. It has lots of illustrations. It is clar an concise, with no long-winded personel commentator stuff that inevitably creps into online versions. It is more like book learning in school.This is not to imply that using a book makes learning Affinity Photo "easy." It is HARD! There is so much to learn. But, since it in in text, the chapters are concise you can easily go back to whatever you need to read again.Don't think that once you have gone thru this book you are "done." Affinity Photo is a sophisticated program that requires a lot of use, but gets better over time as you learn. If you want something quick and simple to "fix up" some pix, this ain't it

After using a basic photo editing program for a while, I wanted to level up and use a product that will teach me more about photo editing. I chose Affinity because it's a one-time purchase rather than a month-to-month fee. Although I know the basics of editing, I was hoping to find a useful workbook to help me learn Affinity in an organized fashion. Finding "The Affinity Photo Manual 2022 - A step-by-Step New Users Workbook," I believe I have found just what I was looking for. Included in the first couple pages is information on how to acquire practice images from the publisher. I just finished downloading them and I am very excited to start working through the step by step instructions. I am so very glad I found this workbook. It is written clearly and in a conversational tone. Also, communication with the publisher via email to receive the practice images was seamless; plus he told me to check in any time if I need assistance with the workbook. I'm so excited to start using this new users workbook.

At first glance, Affinity Photo might seem unapproachable. At first look, it might seem to lack the features and bells and whistles that some of the other Image Editing products offer. But the truth is that Affininty Photo has everything and, once the interface is understood, even a just beginning user can tap into all the resouces needed to edit, enhance, repair and create great looking images. Frank Walters' book, The Affinity Photo Manual, is the perfect guide to help new users and more experienced ones tap into all of the awesome capabilites of Affinity Photo. This step by step guide takes users through all of Affinity Photo's components through a series of easy to follow exercises that are informative, interactive and fun. I consider myself to be an intermeidate user of image editing software, but I have to admit I've learned a lot from this book and acquired knowledge and skills I didn't have before. I'm glad to have it in my collection and am sure I'll be going back to it time and time again.

If you are looking for a detailed book on learning the tools and features of Affinity Photo then this is a must have!! Prior to my purchase of "The Affinity Photo Manual: A Step-by-Step New Users Workbook" I had looked at several other books and none of them even came close in comparison to the layout, design, information, and easy to follow instructions I found in it. The Workbook not only informs about each of the tools ,but does by having you follow easy step by step instructions so you apply what you are learning as you go. Frank Walters and Kuhlmanpublishing also offer a 2.0 version for purchase for Affinity Photo 2 users. Also, I have to mention the excellent, expedient customer service.

This book gives a vast amount if info that is needed by those studying Affinity, The level of detail and the attempt to explain as opposed to just telling you to push button A, then push button B is admirable. However, with Affinity being a very comprehensive program, what is still needed is a book (or books) that are even more elementary and more informative about the 'why' of things and not just instructive on how to push buttons. There are now some third party books that should precede this book that lead you by the nose up to this book. You need to study these third party books first. That being said, I am still giving this book 5 stars because it does a good job with what is inside it's covers. Affinity is a very large and capable program and would need an entire library to definitively cover everything. I just like to cover the bases one at a time starting at the beginning (and not in the middle somewhere). If you type Affinity into Amazon.com, you will get the total Affinity catalog as it now stands; it is also expanding as we type. There is now very little difference between Affinity and PS and the gap is narrowing daily.

I was gifted this workbook for Christmas. I have always wanted to learn Affinity Photo as I use Affinity Design on a regular basis. This workbook is very easy to understand. I love how the author, Frank Walters uses an informal way to teaching. It feels like he is right here in the same room teaching the lesson. The printing of this book is excellent with vivid photos. I look forward to learning about Affinity photo with my new book. I would recommend these workbooks to anyone trying to learn the Affinity programs.
