Hydro-stone plaster is an ultra hard plaster often used in taxidermy and casting Review: Novice user but great product - I have loved this product since my days of having the pleasure of working as a painter for a company in Oklahoma that cast figurines in this stuff way back in the late 90’s early 2000’s. This is my first attempt to cast on my own. The mumbo jumbo ratio nonsense was a complete waste of time. Just mix it. The first batch I thought I made too thin because online advice said 3 to 1 ratio. Now was that volume? So confused. I used 1 cup hydrostone and 1/3 cup water and it turned out very very thin. 30 min later I gave up and put it in a cup and started over. Pause for a second because an hour later when I came back to that cup it was rock solid. So on to the next batch. I read about putting water in the bowl first then add the hydrostone until it forms a pile in middle. Smish.. I just put some in my cup added a little water let it suck up the water and then stir. It wasn’t as thin as my first batch so I was satisfied because this was an experiment. I used two small silicone molds and tapped them periodically as I poured them. I decided to walk away and not watch as tempting as it was and came back 20 minutes later and both were what seemed to be firm and a little warm. I took a chance and popped them out of the molds. Perfect!! No bubbles!! I over poured the molds or they were just made odd, I can’t really tell but I can file and sand them down. Long story short my whole intention on this project is to hopefully recreate what I had 20 years ago. I loved the painting part I just wish I could get the people together who can sculpt, make molds, make hydrostone slurry, pour it and me paint it. Is that asking too much? Review: Good stuff - I love hydro-stone I’ve been experimenting with mix ratio and have somewhat settled on a 3:1 ratio based on weight. I’ve also added small amount of titanium oxide and the almost white color is perfect. Holds detail very well.

Good stuff
I love hydro-stone I’ve been experimenting with mix ratio and have somewhat settled on a 3:1 ratio based on weight. I’ve also added small amount of titanium oxide and the almost white color is perfect. Holds detail very well.

Good for molds
No issues with the item but instructions (ratios) would have been helpful.

Better than POP, more affordable than Resincrete
POP is too weak for my needs and resincrete is too pricy. Hydrostone is the ease if POP with the strength of resincrete. Highly recommend!

Great
Great plaster! The only thing it’s not comes out white in color, you might need to use something to make it white.

"Perfect for Realistic Scenery Strong, Smooth & Fast-Setting!"
The texture is smooth and captures every tiny detail of molds, rocks, bricks, and terrain features. I also love that it doesn’t chip easily once dry, which makes painting and weathering much more enjoyable.

Superior cement
Much prefer this to any other brand of cement. I feel it gives the best finish to my products (mostly candle vessels) and it is highly durable. But if you can find it near to home it’ll be way cheaper than buying here. I found it locally after much searching and now buy 50lbs bags for a 1/3 of this price so for that reason I’m scoring value for money lower.

Bad batch?
I order from here a lot - because I make vessels for my candles, but this recent batch was really bad. The minute I add water (either tap or distilled) it hardens. That should not happen in under a minute. I'll try again but I really hope this doesn't consistently happen. Def a waste of money $$$
