Lock N Roll
So a Comedy of Errors caused me to have to order this random lock and if you need something just like this, it came exactly as appeared. I ordered the green and when I ordered it I was concerned that I was not going to be able to create the exact combinations of words and numbers that I needed because it was a replacement of another lock, but lockily (wink) this item comes with several interchangeable green dials with combinations of words and numbers and you set the lock by picking out exactly what combination of letters and numbers that you would like to have as the passcode and then you follow the instructions to set the lock! It worked as expected and it's very easy to operate and it's also quite easy to change the combination if you want it to be something different but you want to be able to use the same lock. That's kind of the beauty of this particular choice. It's not like you're going to lose the key, you know what I mean? As long as you have the code you can get into it and if for whatever reason you need to change access to something that you want to keep the same lock, all you have to do is very easily change the code. It'll be handy to have for use with a gate or for a seasonal Locker. It feels really safe and secure and it doesn't feel like you could cut through it very easily and the shackle fit well into the hinge lock that I used it for. It's also extremely visible because of the colors on the Tumblers and it's kind of nice that you could select different colors for different applications on the same site. It makes it easy to discern and leave instructions because you can reference the color. It seemed very sturdy and it definitely looks as it appears in the advertisement. Good value.

Great Lock
Great lock at a great price. I like it because the letters/numbers are big enough so that I don't need my reading glasses. I have read the negative reviews and yes, it will break if you drop it because my last one did. Of course I had to drop it 5 or 6 times over almost 6 years before I needed to replace it, but I replaced it with the same kind of lock. Check the price and you will see that you just don't have to be that careful. The only bad point to me is that it uses letters and the kids at the health club like to try to spell rude words with it when I'm not there.

A tale of two locks
I would like to share my ridiculous experience with two locks I purchased from this vendor. The description suggests that the lock is designed for gym and school use, however, in my case, it caused me more trouble than help. This lock attracted me with its sturdy appearance, it's 5-digit combination including alphabet. Somehow I also got an illusion from its simple design that the lock must function very well. I purchased two of them. However, only after assembling the locks did I realize how difficult it is to operate the locks. For both locks, you need at least 3 to 5 pushes/pulls/twists of the shackle in slightly different angles in order to lock or unlock them, sometimes even more. I was hoping that maybe after using them for a while I could get familiar with their personalities and learn the tricks to operate them. So I carried both locks to the gym, but I wouldn't think the new ones could provide better security than my old 3-digit lock, because every time I had to spend at least 3 seconds to lock or unlock, with both hands on the shackle. This means I have to expose the 5 digits completely to anyone besides me, and I am sure the big digits are very recognizable from a few feet away. With both locks at hand I always did quick tests before using them, to see which one could be locked faster. The truth is, sometimes it would take 10 ridiculous seconds to lock or unlock, a situation I definitely want to avoid in the gym. Luckily no one seemed to be interested in my belongings in the locker since the unfortunate accident yet. But I doubt, had anyone wanted to open my locker, it couldn't be easier. However, what is worse just happened today: one of the lock stopped functional completely: first it would not lock, then after some hard tries it locked but refuse to be unlocked anymore. Because of the strategy mentioned above, I didn't end up in a situation to be locked out of the locker. I am wondering if that happened, how could I half-nakedly beg the gym staff to break the locker for me, and who would pay to repair the broken locker? This is my experience of using 2 locks of this brand. Hope it could be a good reference for you to pick your purchase.

Not a bad lock for certain uses, read on for some tips!
I've been using this lock for over a year and here are some tips for using it. 1. If you ever leave the lock sitting around unlocked where people that you don't want to use the lock have a visual on the combo, make it a habit of changing the combo regularly and not just leaving the lock in plain view when not in use. (We use this on the work fridge and sometimes I'll notice some people scoping out the lock combo if it's sitting on the counter unlocked). 2. Never store the lock in your gym back, backpack, purse, etc in the unlocked position because the end could possibly fall off resulting in the 4 plastic keys sliding off. 3. If the above happens, simply align all the red dots (if necessary) that are printed on the lock and you can easily put the combo back together or use that as a good time to make a new combo. 4. When the lock is unlocked do not move the combo otherwise you won't be able to close the lock. (It has to be on the combo to lock). 5. Make it a habit that when you lock it spin all the dials so that the protruding parts stick out evenly in a row together so there is no easy way to just spin them all together and try to unlock it. 6. Make sure no one is watching you when you lock the lock since it has to be aligned on the combo to lock. 7. I find a great combo to set up and remember is to take the first 2 dials and use letters, then the second 2 dials and use those as numbers. Now for the letters set up a loved one, friend, or sport player's initials. For the second 2 dials set up that loved one or friend's birth year, for a sports player you can put their playing number, etc. This makes it easy to remember. 8. Don't use this lock where it will be unattended for a very long period of time because someone could just cut the plastic off the dials and unlock it. I'm sure there are more but here are just a few helpful tips.

Perfect for kids
This lock is perfect for kids learning to read. You can create any word up to 5 letters and if you have a 3d printer you can print your own ring dials. (Thingiverse dot com search-> "Master Lock Word Dial") I personally use this when we go to the gym or when we go for a bike ride and just need to lock for an hour or so. I would not put this lock on something completely out of sight and unattended for long periods of time. If someone takes a hammer to the letters then they can open the lock without knowing the combination.

Medium security lock, design could be better
Not a spring loaded clasp so the combo must be put in to close as well as open the lock, and you need to spin all the dials after closing to secure it. The dials spin out of place easily when the lock is open so this gets annoying if your in a hurry because your at the gym on your lunch break:) The construction is cheap with plastic dials and design could be better; the end cap on the body of the lock where the clasp goes in is just pushed onto the housing and not held in place at all (would be nice to see a threaded on design). It is held on when the lock is closed by the clasp itself so to be fair it is pretty secure when it is all closed and locked but when you open the clasp it has a tendency to fall off and the dials also fall off at that point. This has happened to me twice when I dropped the lock on the floor at the gym while opening my locker. And if you don't put the dials back on exactly as the same way you just changed the password! And the plastic dials mean that if someone really wanted to they could bust off the dials to see the indicators on the tumblers underneath to open the lock. I only use this for the gym so I think it is adequate but I wouldn't trust this lock on something like a garage door or storage area that would be left unattended for days or weeks. If this lock had metal dials it would be perfect for these uses because the combo is very easy to remember but as it is I would say this is a medium to low security device.

Glad I got it, highly recommend!
Nice lock! Easy to use and set up and has many different words and number combinations to use!

I had to send it back
This lock is too wide to fit a gym locker. It would probably work well as a padlock that has a hinge type lock. Like on a fence. And the letters aren't just big, they are enormous. It's neat that it comes with different bands you can put on to make it spell different words. But it's not going to fit a gym or school locker.

What??
I was impressed with the variety of combinations until my 16 year old grandson, picked four of the five letters/numbers just by 'listening' to the tumblers as he moved them!!!!

Solid, Secure & Easy to Use
What a brilliant idea! The ability to pick your own combination with numbers and letters of your choice, is fantastic! We use this lock daily at the gym and because there are two of us each with th same lock, we have set them to be exactly the same so that we can access each others locker if needed or use the locks and gym bags interchangeably. The quality is excellent, the lock works well and consistently and if ever we needed another lock, this is the one we will buy. Numerous people at the gym have stoped either of us asking about this lock and where can they get it? They love how easy it is to use and they are fascinated how it works. I don't write reviews easily, this is a damn good lock, and don't hesitate! Lastly what is nice is that should we choose, we can change the combination at any time, not that we plan to do that, but its great. We picked a common word with a number that we will never ever forget.
