JBL GTO609C Premium 6.5-Inch Component Speaker System

Like other JBL products the highs are not TOO bright but just enough to let you know it’s there. The selectable frequencies (I.e bass, mid, treble) are mellow, not over the top; bleeding into other frequencies causing a muddy, bass lacking, muffed sound. The power rating is very conservative yet forgiving. Perfect for upgrading your factory speakers. You won’t loose clarity with these as it doesn’t require wattage in extreme excess of a factory radio. However, louder with amplified power. The sweet spot for these is 75-90 watts. The passive crossover will rob some of the wattage so it’s best to be mindful if buying these in addition to an aftermarket amplifier. They have a +3 or 0db option. 0db works fine and balances the time alignment just right between the woofer and tweeter. I do not recommend these in union with a crazy 3k watt subwoofer set up. You can, but you will loose clarity, depth and sharpness. This is a really killer of a set for someone looking for a factory looking install with a crisp, clean, and deep sounding musicals.

This review is for the GTO 609c 6.5” component set. I am amazed at the quality of sound these speakers make! I replaced a 5 year old set of Rockford Fosgate power 6.5” coaxial speakers with these in my 3rd Gen Honda CR-V(2010). I was actually pretty satisfied with the sound from the RF coaxials,but have been really wanting to try a component set for better sound. I am running one Punch P3 12” sub and the bass just really overpowered the mids and highs. I mounted the tweeters in the sail panels (surface mount) and put the crossovers inside the door panels. As other reviews have mentioned the tweeters are tiny! Don’t let that discourage you though..these things really sing! I am really impressed with the range of sound these speakers reproduce. I’m not putting a lot of bass to these due to having a subwoofer but they still have a nice midrange punch. These are also currently running only off my Pioneer head unit at approx 22W Rms. I plan to amplify these soon and I’m sure the sound will be even more amazing! Overall the quality and sound that these speakers make is fantastic at this price point. If you want a great sounding component set without breaking the bank..buy these already!! *Update to review!* Finally got around to installing amp on these and WOW! Not only do they get loud but the clarity and detail is amazing even at low to moderate volume. The amp is a JBL GX-A602 2 channel (60wx2 RMS) This is also a great little amp that puts out a good amount of power for running a component set and its small footprint makes mounting easy...another great JBL product!

I've been doing car audio for over 30 years and these component sets are legit and the performance for cost is unmatched. The midbass response is excellent and the lower midrange is very accurate. The tweeters are good but not world beaters. But considering the price, and the performance that is given, I can nothing but say these are more than worth the money. I originally had them installed to just a 22 watts rms JVC head unit and they more than exceeded my expectations. I have since added a 4 channel amplifier to them and they are still more than outperforming their price. I've read many of the 1 star reviews and I want someone who is thinking about buying these to disregard those reviews. Some people absolutely do not know how to install or treat a speaker properly, but will always blame the product and not themselves. I've literally installed hundreds of car audio systems and there is a total lack of understanding on how music should be played. Just because a stereo volume control maxes out at 50 does not mean it is ok to listen to music at max signal and max distortion levels. If you're one of those guys, then there will never be a speaker that's going to make you happy.

for the price, these perform quite well, so long as they are fed the power they require from a clean, quality amplifier. as noted by others, the highs can be a bit overpowering, however this is remedied by adjusting the location of the tweeters and also EQ settings. the crossovers have a removable panel which allows you to pop off the cover and use the supplied mounting screws to secure them so they aren't flopping around. the woofers perform so well that i no longer need to have a second amplifier and subwoofer set up, they provide more than enough bass and midrange without distorting even at uncomfortable volume levels. even at low volume, vocals are crystal clear, and the music is reproduced much more clearly than most coaxial speakers. they came with all mounting plates / hardware necessary, and installing the tweeters in the door panels is a total breeze, so long as you have access to either a hole saw or step drill. the only thing they do not have are speaker terminals, however you will most likely want to use the best quality QUALITY speaker wire and solder the connections to the speakers, as cheap clip on style may possibly shake loose. if you do not have shielded ignition wires or have your signal wires too close to voltage lines, you will pick up a small amount of "alternator whine" although once you get past quarter volume, you will not really notice it, though this is probably just due to the amplifier i am using, it is not the speakers. everything that was advertised came in the kit, although of course the woofer grills are cheap plastic, but they serve the purpose of protecting the cones well enough. definitely install some dynamat behind these to block out excess road noise, and these will perform beautifully. i will most likely be replacing the rear deck speakers with another set of components in the future, although if you are cramped for space, these will fit in a 6.5 inch enclosure box, also available on amazon, just mount the woofer, drill out a spot for the tweeter, mount the crossover, and bam, you have a set of AMAZING bookshelf speakers that can hook into your car or home stereo / computer /etc.

I did 4 new speakers, components in front and GTO629 coaxials in back, new head unit, 2 amps, and a subwoofer for my new truck. I also added sound deadening butyl to the doors and foam around the speakers (I used air conditioner foam from wally world for around $3/door). When I first did the front doors with deadening and added the new speakers, I was not impressed by the output. Since adding a new head unit and a four-channel amp, they are very solid and the sound quality is greatly improved. The amp has a 90 Hz HPF crossover option, I tried this out but definitely didn't like it. Even with my subwoofer to fill in the lows, these speakers were adding a lot of good bass and no distortion as high as I wanted the volume. The speakers are rated for 90w RMS and the four-channel amp is well matched for this (100w @2 ohms, 63W @4 ohms, these speakers are around 3 ohms and so the amp should be able to do ~80w), but the levels on the amp are only up about 20% and I've got quite a lot of headroom on my volume knob.

I researched speakers for quite a while before replacing the system in my 04 Avalanche. I looked at several manufactures as I wanted quality and was not concerned about price ( to a point). I was looking at 6.5's from Kicker to Focal and everything in between. I was even looking at a couple of pairs that ran over $600 bucks. I kept coming back to the JBL GTO609C's. They are one of the few 6.5's that can handle high RMS and sound great doing it. I put them in my Avalanche and was amazed how great they sounded with pushed with 100 watts a channel. They sound good on a quality head unit but really come to life when you pump the power to them. I just put a second set in my 2500 Silverado today and I am equally as happy with this set as I was with the first. The speakers I pulled out of my Silverado where very good speakers that came with a price tag to match but after having the JBL's in my Avalanche I had to have them for my truck too. Get them before you can't as they are not offered this year by JBL.

Got these last december, waited til Feb 2020 to install. Installed in my dakota r/t that loves to gulp gas so its hardly ever driven. So I put these in and they sounded ok at first until I herd what sounded like the tweeter cutting out. I thought it was my rca cable at first so I replaced that and it seemed ok. Fast forward to today, about 500 miles later on the truck and I notice i am not getting very sharp cymbal's from that same side, Thinking I must have put the crossover button for less tone I take my door panel off and button is in correct position so I turn the stereo on that side only and put my ear up to the tweeter and nothing! I think it has been this way since day one and I just didn't notice because I have 10 other speakers in the truck. I should have bench tested it all before installing it! I sent a message to jbl today so I hope they will do something about it, I am pretty poor and really splurged on these thinking I was getting something a lot better then the cheapo speakers I usually buy that I never expect to last long. *Update 9-9-2020* So I went through warranty support and they agreed to send me a replacement, Well I get the email telling me there sending me TWEETER CLUB6500C/9600C and I immediately emailed them back that it appears they are sending me the wrong tweeter but the rep emailed me back assuring me there sending the correct one. Well sure enough they send me a tweeter from the cheaper club components. I am not installing a mismatched tweeter so I email them back and wait. I attach a picture of the tweeter they sent me, clearly different from the gto series. I called the support today, they are sending me the tweeter from the GTO509C set as the tweeter is the same, apparently they do not have replacement parts for the GTO609C anymore. I upped the rating to 3 stars for the prompt warranty support but Ill probably get different speakers next time.

Good quality sound, nice mid punch bass, good price point. These are all I will install going forward in any further stereo installs that I may do. I purchased a cheaper set of JBL's from another source only to find out they weren't as adequate as this model line. The magnet on this model is twice the size & weight of the others, so be aware; all JBL's aren't the same as I found out the hard way. I also recommend insulating any door speaker with a foam insulation kit (Roadkill or other) as it's well worth the money (your door panel is already off). Your mid bass will be nice & tight with no rattle or loss of pressure inside the door cavity if you insulate the speaker.

Excellent sounding and capable speakers when driven by the proper 4-channel amp with frequency and gain control. I didn't end up using the x-overs in this kit but they're nice and certainly a big benefit to anyone with a 2-channel amp. I'd buy this kit again ... and maybe I WILL if I could be certain the 6 1/2" speakers would fit behind my factory speaker covers of my front doors. Hold up fine under high demand but don't expect just 4 speakers to carry ALL the load.. that's just silly. I have 3 subs and 14 other speakers in total, a proper system in my opinion, especially if you want full range sound, at high quality even at low volumes :-)

Volevo esattamente questo sistema per completare l'impianto in macchina, ho una macchina particolare ed ho utilizzato la stessa serie ma ovale per il retro/sub. Erano introvabili perchè uscite di produzione, fortunatamente mi sono accaparrato l'ultimo pezzo! SPETTACOLARI! Qualità del suono eccellente, basta guardare le dimensioni dei magneti e confrontarle con le serie più nuove per capire che negli anni sono andati verso prodotti più cheap, ahimè. Purtroppo non penso siano prodotti che attraggono molta gente ormai! Sarà dura trovare sostituti decenti in futuro!

The sound quality is very good, with punchy bass and clear sound — I really love it. However, when I use it without the component crossover, the sound becomes normal. But when I connect it with component crossover the sound quality improve, high renge sound and low reng sound comes separately, which feel excited the sound. the sound becomes powerful and lively. Sound is good with tight bass. Its very good speaker with good quality. Go for it without any doubt.its very best in car speaker segment 👌
