So far I love it, I've never owned any other so maybe I'm not the best reviewer to base decisions off of. If it breaks quickly I'll be mad but I tried it and it's cool. Hmm I thought the fact that it slowly reached the temp it was reading was interesting and a bit annoying since I had to stand there holding it while it read. I could attach a piece of cloth to hold it for me to the pot somehow but maybe it could melt and I wouldn't wana find out.. I'm really happy it can read BBQ embers as well as oil/candy/soups/whatever. Doesn't have a light to display just the number. A bit small of a display if your old.. if your still making candy when it's too hard to focus your eyes. Honesty.

A very good thermometer for the price. It could be used for a lot of other purposes than making candy. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because ideally a candy thermometer would provide a way you could clip it to the side of the pot, and would be easier to read without from a higher angle -- you pretty much have to look at this from the side. But I expect a thermometer with those features would cost considerably more.

Not Instant, at all. Using this for home brewing, I tested it with boiling water to ensure that it was accurate. It lagged a solid 4-5 seconds to read behind an ANALOG thermometer. How slowly does this read? Remember when you were a kid and didn't want to go to school and thought you might be running a fever? So your mom made you take you temperature and you waited and waited for it to go 99.1, 99.2, 99.3, etc before maybe hitting 101 and keeping you home? It read slower than that. I could boil half of a tea kettle's worth of water in the time it takes for this to tell me the temperature of boiling water.

I am very pleased with this thermometer. I made pralines for the first time, and this thermometer worked beautifully. It doesn't have a clip, so I used a binder clip, which worked very well. It's auto-off function is a bit frustrating, hence the four stars, but it's accuracy was great. I am so pleased I got a good candy thermometer for an amazing price. I think this will work out wonderfully for my candy making.

I received the item very quickly after ordering. One reason I purchased this item is it has the metal probe and doesn't have any glass that could break. It seems to measure the temperature correctly and quickly. The quality seems to be good and I would recommend this item.

This cooking thermometer works like a charm. Received this today and used for our dinner tonight. We didn't want to overcook the food because then it would get dry. It is super easy to use and seems very accurate. I like the nice hard plastic storage case for keeping the meat thermometer. Also works well as a candy thermometer. It worths the money. I had one that wasn't digital and would stand there forever waiting for the temperature to settle up.­ This instant read thermometer is quick and makes life easier!

You do have to hold it in place for a while to get a good temperature. Seems to take less than a minute but it is not instant. Appears well made and functions well.

This thermometer arrived quickly and is exactly as described. The display is easily readable and switchable between Fahrenheit and Celsius (handy, that). I thought the control buttons might be a but of a hassle, as, unlike Donald Trump, I am blessed with large hands, but no problem at all. Decent price, too. I'll give it 5 stars.
