Beast
I can't say you'll catch more, or bigger, that's on you. But I can say this rod won't hold you back. It's top quality, tough, light, and the sensitivity is perfect. I've caught everything from bluegill to 25lb redfish on this thing, it'll catch anything the average fisherman will ever throw at it. Bang for you buck, this can't be beat.

Penn Squaron IV Conventional Rod
The 2 piece fishing rod arrived intact and undamaged (don't know how, it was just in a plastic bag). This rod in combination with the Penn Rival 30 reel looks to be a great combo for surf fishing and crabbing. Can't wait to get my line in the water!

Another win for Penn
Perfect Surf Rod! Has a wonderful stiffness that makes you feel like you can handle any size fish. At the same time, the tips sensitivity is wonderful. I can feel every bite. I’m even able to flick different lures easily. Great rod for the price!

Snapped
Fished at the Kids Can Fish Foundation Redfish Tournament this weekend. Was using a 5oz sputnik and about 1-2oz mullet. Rod states it can cast up to 10 ounces. I did not exceed that. Went to cast and the rod snapped in half. Exactly where the two pieces come together. This was the first time getting to use this rod and was not impressed. Especially after spending as much as I did on it to break!

Poor Packaging
We're providing a slightly delayed review as we just returned from a trip. The rod arrived as specified, but unfortunately, the packaging left much to be desired. There was no bubble wrap or any protective material to prevent the rod from bouncing around during transit. As a result, the rod suffered numerous scratches and dents. To compound the issue, the packaging wasn't securely taped, allowing even more room for the rod to move around. Regrettably, we were on a tight schedule due to our trip and didn't have the luxury of time for a return. Consequently, my husband had to use the rod despite its compromised condition. In contrast, we also purchased a spinning rod of the same length from a different seller. Surprisingly, that one arrived a day earlier and was exceptionally well packed, with both pieces securely separated. Despite the packaging issues, the rod itself is of excellent quality—lightweight and efficient. Our recommendation would be to consider this rod, but exercise caution when choosing sellers, especially those with negative reviews on their packaging practices.

Better than Custom Builds Easy on the pockets.
I have poles I've paid $400+, and this $90 feel better than most any custom build I own or seen. its simply a great buy and great pole. If you fish the way I do, when it comes to your equipment, its really not about the price over the feel and performance. If you spend hundreds and your equipment feels like trash, and you arent catching fish, try some of the lower end stuff and you may be surprised. By the way, I paired this pole with the Okuma Magda Pro 20dxl go check out that review.

10ft Medium Action
I am definitely a fan of this rod. I purchased this in conjunction with a Okuma Rockaway for surf fishing in South Carolina. The rod didn’t have the sensitivity I wanted for whiting and pompano fishing so it became my redfish/shark rod. It pulled in a few slot red with no problem but then came the real test. I used it as my shark fishing set up, targetting 3-6’ sharks. It performed flawlessly with the first black tip I hooked into which came in at around 3 1/2’. Later that afternoon I hooked into a very nice 6’ finetooth. Only 7 or 8 minutes into the fight I heard what sounded like a stress fracture at the conjunction of the two portions. As the fight progressed and I had the shark in the shallows it broke right in that conjunction, the shark was still landed!. Penn was great with the warranty, they provided a new rod to me within a week. Overall I think it’s a great purchase and if you’re looking at a good target species for this rod for surf fishing it would definitely be geared towards the medium-large size game fish (redfish, snook, tarpon,) versus the smaller, (whiting, pompano, croaker) .

Rod-5 stars. Shipping/ packaging-1 star.
Product arrived in zero packaging with a few scratches and dings. The fact that none of the eyes are broken is a miracle, the UPS driver was impressed as well. Shipper needs to utilize better packaging. The rod has to be tough to make the trip from Maryland to North Carolina with minimal damage. We will see how it holds up to surf fishing on the OBX.
