JVC Mobile Company KD-R730BT Car Stereo - Nice stereo

I purchased this stereo to replace the original radio on my daughters 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. To Install, I bought the "Metra 70-7001 Radio Wiring Harness for Mitsubishi 94-Up". With the harness, the installation was simple and all the wiring matched up perfectly. The speakers were assigned right both for the balance and the fade. The stereo itself improved the overall sound in the car. Nice sound even though I left the original factory speakers in the car. The Bluetooth works through a USB adapter that you can plug to either the rear or front port on the unit. I chose the rear port which is on an extension cable just in case I had to reposition the plug to get a good Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth connected almost instantaneously with an iPhone and the sound was clear. The unit also came with an external microphone that I installed on the left side of the windshield near the visor. The cable was long enough so that I was able to conceal the wire and position the microphone in a good position for speakerphone conversation. I've been impressed at how clear the sound is. The radio automatically pauses during phone calls which is great (and as it should be).Just about everything on this radio is done nicely. It includes USB and an auxiliary port on the front of the unit which allows for many connection options. There are also many options for the colors which is an added bonus when trying to match the colors of the lights in the car.The only gripe I have is that using seek and scan on the radio is not intuitive. I've only tried a couple of times but I've yet to find those two functions. My daughter loves this JVC stereo and all in all, I am happy with the purchase. I think the price, options, and quality of this stereo equal a nice value for the money! I would recommend.

She wanted the deck, so I put it in.

Installation is pretty straight forward since I've done this multiple times over the years. No surprises, very easy.Once installed it made the stock speakers in my Ford Ranger sound so much better. I was seriously shocked how much better. I've never experienced such a drastic improvement. What I love about these JVC decks is the intuitive menu system. I never need to open the manual. Front Auxiliary and USB work great. My one gripe is that when I plug my phone in to the front USB to charge, it immediately changes the source and starts to search for music. Not that big of a deal but it would be nice to have a feature in the menu to "charge only" or some such since my SD card has an unreadable format. I didn't really feel it warranted a diminished score though since that format is my choice. Haven't tried the CD player but I'm sure it works just as well as the JVC deck in my girlfriend's car.Now to the rough and tumble part of my review. Bluetooth. What a pain. I have a Samsung Epic 4G (Galaxy S). Kind of an old phone but I got it free from work so I'm not complaining. Bone stock this deck does not like this phone. Bluetooth audio just didn't work. The phone feature was inconsistent. However through much trial and error I finally have both features working. Like I said my phone was originally stock, specifically because I was worried as to whether or not the phone would work with this deck. Since it didn't work stock I fooled around with different ROMS. I tried many different ones. Some wouldn't work at all and some would only work with the phone feature. Then I tried Avatar Rom (CM10 not CM10.1). Now not only does the phone work, but so does audio. I don't get all the audio features but I do get what I need. The track title, album and artist info all show up. Track time and bitrate info doesn't show up but I don't care. I can't play or pause music from the deck but I can skip tracks which is really all I care about. It's also a very specific process to get it to work every time. A little annoying but I'm not starving in some 3rd world country so I appreciate what I have.To summarize:Price to features ratio is outstanding.Easy installation.Breathes new life into stock speakers.Easy to navigate menu.Front aux and USB.Bluetooth - not all features work but the ones I need do.

Inexpensive bluetooth radio! No issue with calls. Bluetooth at high volume has some static.

Inexpensive bluetooth radio! Under $100, discontinued from the manufacturer I believe so I don't know how much longer it will be available. Perfect price for what I was looking for.No issue with calls. Comes with a wired mic that someone installed for me near my rear-view mirror, no complaints for call quality. I don't make many calls, but when I do I need my hands free because it's dangerous to drive and hold a phone, AND I also have a manual transmission in my car.Bluetooth media at high volume has some static. I am not an audio expert but I am picky about what I hear for music especially in my car since I am in it a lot. I noticed that anything transmitted over Bluetooth seems to have a little static on what sounds like higher pitched sounds which is more noticeable when I turn up the volume. I have made up for this by adjusting the equalizer settings but I think it is the nature of the Bluetooth audio streaming. I could be wrong though. I did try multiple android phones. It does pair up very easily. Automatically does every time I start my car if my phone Bluetooth is on. I simply start the music on my phone and put it in my pocket. The next and back track buttons.Just fair warning for anyone who does not know how Android and Operating System updates work. Pandora Information (track title) and controls (thumbs up, down, play, pause) only work with certain versions of Android/Mobile OSes. Jelly Bean being the latest version of android does not have a feature built in known as AVRCP which from what I understand (not a Bluetooth expert) passes those types of commands and information. So you will not be able to use all of the advertised functions with all operating systems. Gingerbread and some earlier OSes should work well from what I am reading. And the update for Jelly Bean will hopefully eventually be out someday soon. It does however pickup the contacts from my phone which is cool! It's not a built in feature of Android for some reason (thanks Google!) but a feature manufacturers or developers seem to have to add later. On an unrelated note. I love the radio otherwise. It offers an amazing array of colors to match your dash lights or just look different if you prefer! Buttons feel very sturdy. I love the amount of options. Auxiliary sounds good!I have not tried the USB functions extensively but I have heard you can connect a hub to the back which is probably suggested so that you don't have a loose USB device sticking out of the front which could be bumped or broken or cause wear on removal when removing the faceplate. A hub would allow the back port to be used for a drive as well and keep the device potentially hidden in your glove box or somewhere else.Otherwise I miss my SD card slot from my old radio. But Bluetooth streaming makes up for it!
