Made for the job
Making up archive disks of family videos from 1988. Wanting longevity, I chose these and have not been dissapointed with the quality. They print beautifully as well.

I decided to go with Verbatim's AquaAce against JVC's Watershield after reading all their reviews here and a couple of blogs. I started looking at these DVD type because I had problems using sticky labels on my DVDs. In my 18 year old Panasonic player the labels caused a lot of pixelation and image distortion; in my 4 year old Panasonic DVD/VHS combo, I got "DVD not compatible". I peeled off the labels and the DVDs played fine. Also looking thru the Internet I learned sticky labels can peel off on their own, and loose sticky pieces of paper can cause serious damage to the mechanisms, only fixable by technicians. Sticky labels seem o be ok on my 2 computers, tho. Now to Verbatim. Amazon had the best price. On the same day I purchased an Epson Artisan 730 AIO that works on CDs and DVDs. As soon as I got the DVDs I printed my first DVD. You must burn it first. I was so anxious I didn't even do the printer's tests. I used its PRINT CD software and took less than a minute to print the DVD face. Epson advises to wait 24 hours for drying, but was I going to wait? after 12 hours it looked fine so I tested it on my DVD players. It worked flawlessly! This morning, past the 24 hours, the colors on the DVD look as sharp and brilliant as they did the instant it came out of the printer. I know because I just printed another one to compare. Blacks are still very black and waaaay better than my glossy sticky labels. A reviewer commented about not being able to print all the way to the edges, leaving a white band around. I noticed that too on my first DVD, but the PRINT CD software allowed me to change the print diameters. I measured the white band, it was about 1 mm, so I increased the outer diameter 2 mm. I also adjusted the inner diameter to 21 mm, because the printable area of this DVDs goes all the way to the hub. Now I have no white left on the face of the DVD. About endurance: I can't comment yet on the look of the colors over a long time. I may update this review in a few months. The image did not get any scratch marks after testing the DVD on my DVD players. I tried to smudge the image but I couldn't. I tried to scratch it with my fingernail, at first I couldn't by slightly scratch rubbing, but I did using my fingernail in a "cutting" way, I didn't have to do it hard to leave some marks. I did it harder and the colors got scratched, showing the white below. I poured some water over it and it did no damage to the image. I let it dry and colors remained as original. It behaves exactly like a photo you would get from an inkjet printer on glossy photo paper. Even those photos printed at your local Wal-Mart or Walgreens do that. So unless you are planning to run a rental business, and with the proper care, this shouldn't be a problem.
