I am a believer in The Breather
I'm 65 and have asthma and was coming off a pretty severe exacerbation following an upper respiratory infection that went off the rails for me. I ordered the device after reading some research on Respiratory Muscle Training. I received the Breather device, downloaded the app, and did the Phonation pretest, and I could sustain the tone for only 21 seconds. Then I used it morning and evening faithfully for the first month on the "Strengthening" plan -- 10 reps followed by a minute of times rest and 10 more reps, as guided by the app timer. At the end of the plan, I repeated the test and could sustain the tone for 33 seconds. Not long at all if you are a singer -- but for someone with respiratory compromise coming off an exacerbation, I was really proud of my improvement and can't wait to share it with my pulmonologist. I am now doing the "Endurance" plan, which requires me to do 30 breath cycles with no break. I lowered the resistance setting just a bit -- and it is a bit of a challenge, but I can do it.There is good video on the app to explain clearly how to use the device. I had not issues with the app at all. (I have an android phone.) It is extremely helpful for me to not only hear the prompt but to see the animation that reminds you to fully inflate and empty your lungs. One nice unexpected side effect is that my lower abs are much more engaged all the time now -- since using the device correctly requires me to really isolate those muscles that pull the diaphragm down to inflate my lungs. I feel like my lungs are stronger now and if I were to get another infection, I think my cough would be stronger and more efficient. If you have lung issues and your doctor is on board, I'd encourage you to consider trying the Breather.

Interesting device for breathing
I'm finding it does help a bit so far, now at 4/4 on dials. Soon to be max....EDIT: Again, very useful to help expand lungs, but found out my issue is with absorption of oxygen while walking. So going to try oxygen therapy.

Voice resonance muscle exercises
The breather was recommended by a voice coach to help build my muscles Ineeded to breathe better to improve my voice resonance. I find it easy to use and the ability to have different settings for inhale and exhale. I have been using it for about a week and already experiencing an improvement.

Start up is impossible!
I purchased this to get rid of mucous and allow free breathing. This was recommended by a friend of mine who is a nurse; she gave one to her dad, who had excellent results with it--changed his life for the better.I took it out of the box, wanting to try it. Not so fast--you can't use it until you clean it! OK, how do you do that--read the complicated instructions with a magnifying glass and hope you do it right and the thing comes apart without breaking. But even then you can't use it because you have to use one of several recommended hydrogen peroxide solutions (can't just use what you have, even if food grade). I then went online to try to locate one of the solutions, and after an hour's search the best I could do was to buy some from a company in Germany! Once I get the solution, if I ever do, then I have to follow the complicated instructions to dismantle and clean it, and then it has to dry for a few hours, and be reassembled! The manual says this has to be done EVERY TIME YOU USE IT! How to use it? Well, you can't just follow simple instructions that come with it--you need to go online and get individualized instructions--more hoops to jump through! In other words, surrender your life to the care of and functional requirements of this device...I was out the purchase price, and all the time and frustration. I called my nurse friend, and asked how her dad had ever managed to get through all the obstacles for use of the product. She said, "Oh, my dad never did any of that! He just kept it on the table nearby, and when he thought of it he would use the expiratory function only. It helped him so much he went from frequent lung problems with some hospitalizations to being problem free and riding his bike 10 miles a day--in his 80s!So, in conclusion, I think I will try using just the expiratory function (only) several times a day, and see what happens. I don't want to risk inhaling any germs from the device. I will do just what my friend's dad did--use it for the improvement of my condition, while not reducing the quality of my life by becoming a slave to the device.

Great product
Great product! I love everything about it, quality, function, additional tutorials on how to utilize the breather, and track your progress. I would highly recommend it for those who are in postoperative treatment as well as for those who have respiratory issues like COPD, accessive mucus production ( to move the mucus up in case the microvilli are destroyed or impaired in function), for those who recently quit smoking (great product to train and expand the lung’s capacity). Overall I am happy with my purchase

Resistance breathing tool
I like this tool because you can set the resistance breathing in and out. I worked in a nuclear power plant in 1990 and we were respirators the whole time we were in the dry well. At first, it was devastating, it was hot and exhausting. But you got acclimated to it in my lungs got three times stronger. I have enjoyed this tool breathing in and out as it exercises your lungs and does a good job. Be sure and rinse it out with soapy water to kill the germs.
