This will be my go to faux bacon. It is organic and no red dye!
I have always eaten the baco’s on the grocery shelf. I would eat them as a quick snack and add to sandwich’s and etc. I found this Frontier brand and thought I would try them as they were without red dye and priced right. I just opened the big bag today and found it to be rather powdery and granular. But the taste would be more important to me. Tasted it and yes it was strong smokey and I liked that and it had a softer texture which I liked too. The flavor is like a long slow smoking process. I just had made instant pot garbanzo beans. I put some mashed in a bowl with a little butter and lavishly sprinkled the Fronteir faux bacon on it with pepper. Oh my that was was an absolutely delish breakfast. It tasted like it had been low and slow barbecued, cooked for many hours. It was amazing. Yes the amount of smoke was just right. I have never had such a excellent flavor of smoke. Try it. It is also organic. I am now thinking of all the ways to use it now......baked/mashed potatoes, soups, chowders, all kinds of veggies, corn on the cob, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, all kinds of dips, bacon gravy over homemade biscuits and much more. The flavor is so amazing and not chemical tasting at all. Sort of like the taste of a “pit master” from the south.

Wilbur the pig says thanks
These astonishingly well crafted tiny portions of textured vegetable protein are seasoned with smoky flavorings of which it can be honestly said they are so good that its not that they taste of bacon, more than bacon tastes of them. They are what bacon WISHES it could taste like on a good day. Some reviewers have commented on the smallness of the individual pieces. Tragically, what these viewers don't see, is that the relative smallness, was a calculated choice made high in the boughs of the Keebler tree where Keebler Elves who are too brilliant to waste their talents on mere cookies got together and planned that the individual pieces should be small enough to unlock a Wave Of Flavor (TM) with each bite. You will be swept away, and Wilbur the pig will do a jig of thanks, with each purchase. Crunchy enough to please the crunch-seeking, fine enough to stay put when sprinkled onto a meal, these tiny fragments of better-than-bacon flavored goodness GET THE JOB DONE. Don't listen to the disgruntled reviewers out there, these little flakes are the shizznit.

Taste like dirt!
This is a finely grounded [something]. Texture and taste of sand with some bacon flavoring added to it! I purchased based off the great reviews. NEVER AGAIN. I had better luck with MorningStar Bacon Strips. I heat them up on the stove until crispy, chop them up into bits and freezer bag them.

I love these things!
I haven't eaten meat in over 35 years, so maybe I don't know what bacon taste like, but I LOVE the taste of these bacon bit imitations! They are crispy, and little salty, smoky ... not over powering. Perfect for salads, baked potato, on top of a sandwich ... however, for those not familar with a product like this, they will not stay crispy if cooked in something; they will become quite chewy, but I actually like that texture and sometimes put them in BBQ Sauce or a salad dressing.

I love it now.
I initially gave this product one star because I didn’t like the texture. But I realized I was looking at it from the wrong perspective. I used it as a cooking additive in eggs on scallops on mashed potatoes and it really is great. It’s has a nice bacon flavor

and it really adds a nice flavor. I'd say it tastes more like hot ...
I use these in cooking, and it really adds a nice flavor. I'd say it tastes more like hot dogs than bacon, but it's still fine. The taste is pretty strong, so it's not as good as a topping or for snacking. I put it in casseroles, mac and cheese, and baking bread. It's kind of like TVP, only with flavor.

Tastes very, very similar to bacon.
Makes great vegan BLT sandwiches.

Not like the same brand as sold by Whole Foods
I have been buying Bac'Uns made by Frontier for years in bulk at Whole Foods. Occasionally, I have purchased them in the 1 lb. bags, so I know that these are the same product-name, same brand, same packaging as what I buy from Whole Foods. But these, from Amazon, are completely different. They are ground much smaller, so that instead of being crunchy, they are more powdery. And they are barely seasoned, if at all. Much inferior to what Whole Foods sells. Can't imagine why the manufacturer would even make them like this on purpose, or why they would pass them on to Amazon, but that is the case. These are not good at all.Addendum 4/25/14: After I bought and returned these, I ordered some from my local Whole Foods Store. They were fine, crunchy and flavorful as they've been in the past. But then I used those up and re-ordered. This time (today), I got the new, powdery, version, with no flavor to speak of. I returned them to the store. Also, I noticed that another Whole Foods here has re-started stocking them in bulk but they are also this new, terrible version. And the Whole Foods ones are inorganic, not the organic variety. So, apparently, Frontier has changed manufacturers or their process for making these things -- organic and inorganic versions -- and has just lost the art. I emailed Frontier about it but they did not seem to care. I am thinking that this product has just changed for the worse and won't be worth buying until and unless Frontier catches on to the problem and fixes it.

Nice taste, shame about the size!
As others have noted, these are very small pieces - bacon dust more than bacon bits. Having said that, they have a pleasant (if pretty mild) smoky flavour. They do add a nice smoky and, I presume, bacon-y taste, but as I have been vegetarian for 45 years, I may not be the best judge of how bacon-y they are.So, they add a nice smoky & salty taste to salads etc, but not much in the way of crunch. My favourite remains McCormick Bac'n Pieces, followed by Betty Crocker Baco Bits, both of which are somewhat harder to come by in the UK.
