Great Tent with its Limitations
My Coleman Pop-Up just arrived and I have to say I am impressed. After reading all the negative comments about the quality and difficulty putting it away I was skeptical. However, the quality is on par for what it is intended to be, a simple easy overnight fair weather tent for families. As a boy scout leader and life long hiker and camper I have seen all manner of tents over the years (currently have 4) and all in all this is a good option for the novice or family looking for a quick easy solution to camping in a tent. I was looking for a quick easy tent for weekend camping when I cant use my hammock. PROS: Light and easy to put up. (However, not really a hiking tent. Packed, its a large circle that's about 32 inches across.) Everything you need in one package, stakes, rain fly, etc. Good Size for TWO (2) adults or One adult and One child. There is NO WAY you are getting 4 adults into this tent. Maybe 4, 5-10 year olds. Perfect for a couple of Cub Scouts. Lots of ventilation screening. This is most definitely a PRO since condensation at the peak of the tent can be a problem with multiple people in a tent. Free standing, the design allows it to be set up with no need to stake it down to make it stay up. Folds up flat with no bulky bag. CONS: You will need 2 cheap tarps. (One to go under the tent and one to cover the inside on the floor. The floor material is thinner than expected but a tarp covering the floor took care of any concerns I had about tearing the floor from the outside or having a cot rub a hole in the material. ) It is short inside. You will not be standing up inside as an adult but most backpacking tents have his downfall. Addressing Other Negative Comments: Zipper Being Too Tight to Zip- Apparently people are stretching the tent out lengthwise before they put the stakes into the ground. That was the only way I could get any tension in the zipper. Simply open the tent and put the stakes in the ground exactly where the loops end up. Hard To Put Away- It comes with 4 step picture instructions that are simple and easy and in English and Spanish and there are tons of YouTube videos. Posted Comment: " Myself and 4 adult men couldn't get it back in the bag." If you by yourself let alone with 4 other adults cant put this tent back in the bag and cant follow any of these instructions without breaking the poles, you probably should not be out in the woods anyway. If a true emergency were to arise I am pretty sure you're not going to make it home. Quality: Boys and Girls it is a $70 tent, if you're climbing K-12 or camping in the Amazon this is not the tent for you. (I doubt any of the people complaining have the capability to do either anyway) If you're taking the family to the park for the weekend or your younger scouts for an overnight, its perfect. Experienced campers know how to work around these minor shortfalls so see above. In summary, its a great little tent for car camping or quick 2-3 night scout camping. Good for two adults or 4 younger kids. Know its limitations and accept them. Dont wait to set it up for the first time once you're in the woods. Practice makes perfect! Lastly, be careful when opening for the first time, it is under tension! Only let one ring go at a time, otherwise you may get a face full of tent and a fat lip to remind you to be more careful next time. Happy Camping and Leave NO Trace.

Quick Setup and Fold Down - Perfect for my beach needs!
Its a great little piece of kit in my opinion! I dont use this to "camp" per say - rather its my refuge when I go to the beach. Normally I bring a traditional tent (Coleman also coincidentally) and the setup and break down normally takes me a good 15 minutes both ways. This little guy is lighter overall - Pops open in seconds (less than 10 IMO) - and can fold back down in 10 with practice. I suggest to PRACTICE! I got this and yolo'd it at the beach and was super cool popping it open... only to have all the "cool" sucked out as I struggled to get this folded back to put into the carry case :P. You know its like walking in a awesome stride... only to trip and stumble .. yes like that! All in all its a good size - my wife and I can sit in the opening side by side to get some shade - it will BARELY fit 2 people but a great "solo" tent if you're doing a overnight thing. Inside wise its got venting to let air in at the top of the tent while being covered by a rain shroud of sorts so keeps wetness out. For my needs .. this is PERFECT... just need it for the beach.. quick setup.. quick tear down.. lightweight.. All in all one of my impulse purchases that I didnt regret!

Tent: Reasonable canine fortress. Shipping: Literally the worst.
I bought this (4 person) tent because I've started taking both of my fairly large, stinky mutts camping with me. I'm a hammock camper, but the dogs aren't coordinated enough for hammocks, and they're both a little stupid, so I wanted something that would a) require not a lot of effort on my part and b) provide a secure "playpen" for my idiots. The good: Easy to set up, pretty easy to collapse, and the netting will hold up to a mild snoot-boop. Also, my idiots love having their own fort. The meh: the stakes are literally a waste of metal. If the ground is soft enough to use these stakes, it's soft enough that they won't hold. If it's harder ground, you'll never get them pounded in. This isn't a deal breaker; if you're camping, you probably have non-garbage stakes. Just an FYI so you're not taken aback. Also, the ventilation is lackluster. This is not a problem if you're into sniffing butts, but if you're not a dog (or very close to your camping companion), pack some breath mints and don't eat beanie weenies for dinner. Also of note: the head space is limited. People whine about this a lot (dogs tend to not notice, go figure) but I'm not including this in the "bad" column because YOU ARE CAMPING!!! GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING MORE FUN THAN HANGING OUT IN A GLORIFIED NYLON SHOPPING BAG! The bad: The mesh is pretty poorly sewn into the tent, and it definitely is not going to hold up long-term. I set my tent up to check it out, and there are several largish gaps in the mesh already. Looks like manufacturing defects, which is fine if you're equipped with, say, a dope fur coat that prevents most mosquitos from biting, but I can see it being really annoying if you are a human. The awful: Who the absolute heck ships a giant saucer-shaped tent via USPS, then claims "one day delivery"? This is the actual only reason behind this thing not achieving all of my tent dreams. I specifically purchased this tent for a planned camping trip, the first one got lost (in Texas? thousands of miles away from my camp site? why?) and I had to jerry-rig an old bug bivy to sequester the dogs, so now my emergency shelter smells like pond scum and wet dog, and when the seller finally realized that their "overnight prime shipping" had turned into "lost in the wilderness of who the heck knows" and sent me another tent, I had another camping trip all planned... then had to cancel it because the postal service simply can't mash something this big into a mailbox. Poor planning, bad form, TWO less-than-adequate camping trips. Final thoughts: I guess I'd rather support the USPS and quit my whining about prime shipping... The tent is pretty dope, the dogs love their new cave, and once you realize how to tuck the loops into each other when you're folding the thing, it's pretty convenient. Fits in my hatchback, weighs basically nothing, pops up in a few seconds, and folds in a few MORE seconds. Also, it appears to be easy to hose off, which is nice for the aforementioned "wet dog pond scum" issues.

because I was camping with others that made me show them how easy it was a few times it may have lost ...
After a few practice setups and more importantly, take downs, I tested this tent (2P) camping this past weekend. IT does indeed go up very quickly and one could argue that is goes down just about as fast. However, because I was camping with others that made me show them how easy it was a few times it may have lost its speed advantage over other tents. People find it amazing and want to see it. The test also included it in both some mild wind and some rain. It handled both very well and did not leak a drop! The issues others have pointed out about the door being inset when open and water getting in that way are indeed true, but minor. Many tents get wet around the door in the rain as folks enter and exit. You just wipe it up. I might rig a tiny fly extension for it to prevent this when using it in the future. All of my other tents that get used frequently are Sierra Designs, two of which are four season tents. Is this one as good as those? No, no it is not. In “real weather,” or backpacking I’d use the Sierra Designs tents. But they take far more effort and time to setup and take down. In good weather the Pop Up has them beat! I also use a Sierra Designs Baffin Bivy and though not a tent, it is used for speed, i.e set up and take down camp fast. It is still faster than the Coleman Popup, but not by a lot and the Pop Up is certainly more comfortable and less of an issue in rain. Others have pointed out issues taking the tent down and folding it up, even broken polls while doing this. I did not have any issue. I watched the YouTube videos and made a point of being gentle. I practiced a lot. I can fold it up in well under a minute. I have folded it up maybe 40 times without any poll issues or failures. To those having issues, practice, never force it and watch the you tube videos of the folks who know how to do it. It is really, really, easy. Others have pointed out the door zipper can be difficult to zip. This is also true and more so when the tent is staked out. It is not a one handed operation, but to be just, on all three of my Sierra Designs tents, it is a two handed operation also, and mostly where the door corves when they are put up tight. The Coleman was the same, though it is slightly harder to zip up. I’d ding it for that, but I got used to it pretty fast. It is another thing where being gentle with it will have rewards. Some have pointed out the cloth floor as an issue. Though, many tents have fabric flows this one seems thin and may be a vulnerable spot. I used a small tarp under It (I use fitted ground cloths with my other tents). I sized the tarp so most of the water running off the tent hit dirt and not the tarp (so the water does not go under the tent). I did not have any problems. Finally, it comes down to how many stars. I could easily say my Sierra Designs, tents are 5 stars and therefore this must be something far less. However, the Sierra Designs tents cost three to five times as much! The ease of setup earns this tent a great score. For the price this Coleman Popup is 100% worth it. Five stars.

Really cool -- and it works!
This isn't necessarily a 5 star tent in general, but it works exactly as promised and so far (2 weekends) it has performed as expected. And it's cool! Definitely a conversation starter at the campground. :) I bought it after a brand new, but cheap, tent failed. (One of the fiberglass poll broke the first time I tried to pitch it. And it took forever.) So I ordered this one in both the the 4-man size and 2-man size. I ended up using the larger one, so this review is for it, but now I am taking the smaller one on a cross country trip. I've set it up to test and except for the size it works exactly the same. Set-up: Yes it really sets up in seconds. Take it out of the bag and throw it in the air. It comes down ready to go. Just stake in place. I used a ground sheet under it. Total time to spread ground sheet, pitch tent, and pound in the stakes, maybe two minutes, no hassle. I used aluminum three-sided stakes instead of the simpler ones that came with it. The larger one is quite roomy inside but low -- you can't stand up but it's fine for sitting on a mattress. We had a twin air mattress and a "pool" type air mattress and there was plenty of room for gear. The sides are fairly steep so you have a lot of usable floor space. It did not leak in a light rain and was cool and well ventilated, but the weather wasn't very hot. In hot weather I would leave off the rain fly, which blocks a lot of air, and pitch it under a flying tarp. The quality of the materials and workmanship was excellent. It is not as easy to fold up as it is to pitch, but once you get the hang of it, you can yank the stakes, shake it out, fold and put back in the case in 2-3 minutes. You have to fight the coiled poles to bend it down in the right way, then it collapses into a circle and you slip the attached strap around it and you're done. I love that it travels as a flatish circle that will fit behind the seat. The 4-man version makes a 36 inch circle, the smaller one is just under 30 inches. I like to camp light -- no elaborate cooking equipment, no portable shower... so setting up the tent is 80% of making camp. I can set this up, inflate the air mattress, pull out the cooler and a couple of chairs, and be off doing something fun in 10-15 minutes. Heaven!

Would be better with stronger seam stitching
I purchased this tent for about 60$ brand new. It pops up in no time at all. Folding it back up was a bit difficult; the instructions didn't help me too much, but videos on YouTube did the job. The low ceiling helped keep the inside warm in low temps. I was able to fit 1 twin inflatable and 3 small children, but they were squished. I really don't see how this is a 4 man tent, but it did the job for us. The only 2 pros of this tent were the reasonable price and the quick set up. The cons were a bit more, but may not be issues for everyone. Cons: The seams around the door are not very strong. Ultimately, the seam was torn around the zipper of the door the first time I closed the tent. I understand that if the pegs are pulled too tight or something is leaning on the tent walls, then there can be an uneven pull on the seams. Neither were the case; the seams simply came apart when zippering the door. Parts of the floor were damp in the morning and there was condensation on the walls. It was about 40° outside of the tent and a small space heater kept the tempts reasonable when it was running inside. I'd like to say it was the temp difference, but the condensation was on the side of the tent away from the heater. The rain fly is permanently affixed and it would be nice if it extended past the door, but ya can't have it all. Overall, this tent is perfect only if the seams hadn't come apart around the door. The zipper seam is sewn into the tent fabric with single row stitching. I've never seen that on a tent and I'm sending the tent back for that reason.

Great tent for the Kids!
We have 5 kids. We bought these little pop ups for our 4 older kids to use when we go camping with our camper. They fold up super small. They are pop ups so they are easy to put up. They just explode into place. The only hard part about these are figuring out how to fold them back up. Takes some muscle and tenacity. The kids love them and have a great time camping and having their own spaces. And the parents aren't loosing the minds trying to set up conventional tents. They seem to function well in the rain and wind and don't leak. Good quality little tents. We use them as single person tents for kids. They would be a tight fit for two adults like they claim. It could be done if you really want to snuggle up with someone.

Good quality, easy set up and take down.
I have another Colman tent that’s served is well. Figured I’d try this 4 person pop up tent for my family of 4 to trim time off the set up and take down. My family consists of two adults and two kids. Heights and weights may impact one’s ability to fit four people in the tent. We got just fine with a little bit of room for our bags of clothing and extra blankets on each side wall keeping us from touching the cold tent walls at night. We used the tent on a recent trip to the Inyo National Forest meet Little Lakes Valley. Temp got down to the low 30’s, wind was in the 20’s with gusts of 30 mph. The tent held up extremely well considering the winds. We kept warm in the tent although our sleeping bags are rated for lower temps and we used two layers of reflectix on the floor below our insulated inflatable mattresses. Still the temp was much warmer in the tent vs the freezing cold outside the tent. Set up was super easy. I initially purchased a 6 person pop up tent from another manufacturer and returned it because it was a nightmare to set up and even worse to tear. The Coleman set up in 10 seconds, without staking it down, and making sure the rain fly was secured. Much faster than any other tent I’ve ever had. Tear down took about 2-3 mins. Super easy if you follow the steps as recommended on the carrying case. The key is to hold the bottom half down with you knee as you fold the top portion over to shrink it down. It’ll make sense when you see this for yourself. Down sides are you can’t stand up (unless you’re 4” tall), but I’ll take that’s expected considering it’s pop up features. It also has only 2 pockets on one side of the tent. It would be nice if there was one pocket on each side of the tent. There’s also no loop/hook to hang a lamp from in the center of the tent. You could hang a lamp on the loops that hold the tent door rolled up. Overall super happy to have purchased this tent. It will be interesting to see how well it does in warmer weather. I suppose we can leave the screen door exposed, and remove the rain fly.
