## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can Gator Board be used as a substrate for painting with acrylic?**
A: I suppose you could use any board for acrylic if you prepared the surface with gesso first.  Gator board is generally used for stretching water color paper.

**Q: what is gator board used for? Can it be carved with an exacto blade?**
A: I staple watercolor paper on the board. The board can withstand the use of staples and water used in painting. This process keeps the paper smooth for painting, otherwise it would buckle.

**Q: I'm looking for the really dense "gator board" not the fairly soft foam core.  Why is gb classified under foam core?**
A: The core of gater board is foam core, but it's denser than typical foam core and the surface is not just paper. It doesn't warp when wet (like when stretching watercolor paper or using lots of water to paint).

**Q: Is this size gatorboard okay for stretching 140 pound 18 1/8 x 24 inch watercolor paper on an otterboard watercolor stretcher?**
A: Sounds like it would be a bit small
In the 18-1/4 “ dimension.  Also, gator board is not completely waterproof- it’s not what I would choose to stretch watercolor
Paper.

I used this gator board to create the watercolor illustrations for my children's book (Bawk Bawk in the Backyard by Celina Marie Chase). I actually used two of them, so I could work on both pages of a spread at the same time (left page and right page), to make sure the background colors were consistent across the spread.
