Review: guitar and more - Sick of cables i decided to try these. switched on and paired in a minute i decided to see what they could do. transmitter guitar , reciever amp, connected and any delay was to little to notice, even from different rooms. okay they work and sound is excellent with no cable hum. So is that it ? cable from peddals to amp and reciever into first pedal ......works perfect. cable into pedals, transmit out of pedals recieve to amp. works too, so whats next ? order another set, full hook up, no cables and amp 100ft from pedals and pedals 100ft from guitar (or any other instrument with line out), FREEEEEDOM !!!! and no cables to pull out. the units are about 3 inches long, and stylish, the only control is the lit power/pair button.180 degree swivel round the jack means no matter where its plugged in it can fold unobtrusively. very light but mot threatening to break on a whim. just remember to keep those cables handy in case you forget to charge and the battery runs out mid rampaging solo (be honest we all have thought we did when we didnt at least once). stylish, multi frequency, powerfull, almost instant signal and unlike cables, no background hum or interference.
Review: SUPERB VALUE - As with most purchases, I always do a wee bit of research and try to determine the best available product at an affordable price point. I have been a songwriter for around 40 years and I can remember when a " budget friendly " musical instrument was just another term for " cheap rubbish " Fortunately, times have radically changed and now we are blessed with a market full of excellent quality items which are far kinder on the wallet. With this in mind, I recently bought the excellent Positive Grid Spark 2 amplifier which comes with a superb app that brings to us every conceivable sound we could wish for in a lovely wee package. I have a dedicated iPad just for this app. I also bought the available battery and foot switch and decided to complete my portable practice rig ( which is good enough to gig with along with a small cab. ) by investing in a wireless guitar system. Positive Grid have their own option ( which I am sure is very good ) but at over £100 it seemed a little excessive when there are other, far more affordable, options on the market. I decided to opt for the LEKATO WS-70 which had great spec.'s and superb reviews. I have felt totally justified in my decision as this is a wonderful wee system with no noticeable latency and no discernible loss of tone. I can highly recommend this option to anyone looking for excellent quality at a very affordable price point.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is anybody experiencing "noise" or "hum" with this unit? While I play, it is ok, but the moment in which the sound fades out, there's a noticeable hum**
A: Yes, absolutely.

In my experience - and I know there are plenty of YouTube reviewers who swear blind to have no issues with hum or hiss at all and I'm certainly not going to call their 'ear' into question - these are simply unusable as anything other than a home practice unit for pure convenience for people who really cannot hear what we're talking about.

I'm aware also that some people are more sensitive to certain frequencies of sound or 'noise' but that doesn't change the fact that these things hiss like a snake and there's really no excuse or mitigation for that.

They are a thoroughly lovely set, well designed, well made, and look like they should represent great value for money. But like all 'digital connectivity' devices the convenience of a concept isn't enough to cover over the lack of fidelity in the transmission they conduct.

In the tests that I ran it was my impression that they were not only generating their own hiss (and/or electronic noise) but that the signal was unnaturally attenuated in respect of reduced volume and, my instinct suggests, in some way over-compressed resulting in the clipping of the signal. I also believe there's an aggressive noise-gate effect at work which is trying to compensate for the fizzing, hiss or 'noise' by trying to gate the signal at low output which in practice, for me, meant that any attempts to play with a range of sensitivities resulted in more subtle playing being lost and simply not transmitted through the wireless connection.

I know that the two units are chalk and cheese and entirely different price ranges, but I also have a Line6 Relay G75 to hand and my primary interest in the Lekato GS70 was for the convenience and portability of a pair of micro-units that don't require cabling up a receiver or transmitter like the more 'pro' Relay G75 - thus making for an easier home practice rig which I genuinely hoped to be able to scale (like the mini Boss units, purportedly) to a live/stage setting as a seamless 'throw it in the kit bag and go' kind of experience, or as a back up for the Relay.

The Relay G75 was like night and day to the Lekato. Virtually silent. Clear. No clipping. No nasty gating. No unwanted compression. Sensistive. Fluid. Gorgeous to play. I also found it less picky entirely as to how it would perform with a variety of guitars from a Taylor T5 which has an active (powered) pickup array and a Taylor 814ce electro-acoustic to a straight up Fender Strat HSS. The Lekato was a real noisy cow when it came to the Taylor T5.

So I returned the Lekato GS70 and I'm still on the quest for a good value home/portable unit and have currently moved on to the NUX B-5RC which is a really stunning little offering as a concept, much like the Lekato GS70, but with much higher quality transmission altogether. I'm not fully tested to satisfaction though because I also noticed on the NUX that while noise is much lower, there's still an electronic hum which appears to be rooted in poor magnetic shielding or something - if I physically make connection between my hand and the transmitter unit, it goes much quieter, but then releasing the contact very audibly reintroduces a modest amount of hum or noise.

I'm starting to fear that this is just a common feature of this form factor of wireless units. I don't think it's an inevitable thing - just note that there are a vast number of seemingly identical units under various brands with various distinct 'sets' of features creating differential models and varieties in head-spinning numbers that just screams 'cheap generic chipsets' and rebadged, drop-shipped non-brands trying to establish some credibility by offering the same tired gadgets as everyone else with absolutely zero R&D, tech support or QA.

The Lekato GS70 fits in this pattern. It looks better than most others and feels like it should be delivering something more, but really doesn't in my experience.

**Q: Do these things work with 88 key electric pianos? Or is there one somebody can recommend? A stereo transmitter/receiver would be optimal.**
A: Dont know about piano. Works on my guitars but wouldn't recommend as the latency is noticeable. I don't use mine anymore.

**Q: What frequency are the ws 70 units**
A: In the manual the frequency response is quoted as 20-20KHz... However on YouTube there is an excellent review by a guitarist who has used this particular model as well as many others he has reviewed... his reviews contain in depth technical information, especially with regard to freqencies, for instance I thought my WS-70s were UHF technology which is a different frequency range?

**Q: Will this work in active bass guitars?**
A: I have used this on my Cort and Sexton basses, with active pickups. Both work fine, either direct to amp or via foot-pedals.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Well Pleased!

Not long owned these, so far so good. Used them on a gig and they worked great, they do slightly compress the sound but as a bass player I find (for me anyway) I don’t mind this as it tightens up the lows.. after a 2 hr show the battery level never moved and the signal never dropped out at all. There was no interference caused from any other equipment,ie radio mics etc (also used) I think these represent great value for money and would recommend them especially for bass, our guitarist tried them and was also impressed, but he uses a. pedal board and never strays too far from it, but he did like them and said any slight alteration to the tone can be EQ’d anyway, overall so far, I’m well pleased!. It wasn’t so long ago these would have been 10x the price!!
