Works Great
Works perfectly. Make sure it's square to the door. Hammer harder for deeper inlay.

Glad I found this
Nice tool. Used it on 7 doors without issue. The reversible cutter works with rounded or square latches. It takes some practice to determine how much to hit the thing. Once the outline is cut you simply use the cutter end to remove the material within. No need for standard chisels. You need to be careful not to apply too much force with the cutter or you could remove material beyond the cutout outline. Not sure how well this would work with hardwood doors, it worked great with pine. The included screwdriver bits are nice, but clumsy to use. You'll need a standard screwdriver to install the handle/knob anyway. The alignment plate on the side is a bit flimsy and you need to be careful not to apply much pressure on it or the cutout will not be centered side to side. The fact that the tool aligns to the bore hole for the latch is great. Well worth the cost. Not sure how this tool would hold up for professional use... You could buy several of these before you paid for a pro model.

Get this tool if installing door knobs
This tool is nothing short of awesome. Where has this thing been all my life? I rented a new place and the door latches were cut extremely amateur resulting in doors that scrapes when closed and some could not lock properly because placement of latch plates in relation to the latch. I re-cut all the door knob latch holes and latch-place holes with this one tool and re-installed all the door knobs. Two of the knobs were "crunchy" and pretty much worn out so I bough a couple wave style Probico knobs in brass finish and used this tool to cut the rounded rectangle latch holes and latch plate holes. The tool worked perfectly and perfectly aligned the new knobs to the latches. I didn't use a chisel at all, I had an exacto knife and this tool and that's it. It's a great tool and I was worried about hitting this plastic tool with a hammer but it showed no signs of distress after installing about 8 knobs. Buy it!

Easy to use
The tool made the job quite simple. The price was on point. I wish I had this years ago when I would do it with a hammer and chisel. I used this tool, and it took less than five minutes. It took me a longer time to open the package.

Awesome tool
Replacing all the interior doors with a different style. Having to cut the hinge spots and the door knob and latch areas. I bought a craftsman combo set up for the door knob and the latch, but the router bit that came to cut out the latch did not work that well. So I looked online and found this tool, and it makes the cut for the latch, perfectly smooth and factory looking. Then after you hammer the shape into the wood, the actual cut out wood removal tool on top works amazing. It could not be any easier thank you Ryobi.

It works ok for DIY, not for Commercial use
The Ryobi Latch Installation Kit does work, it just is not durable in a commercial setting. In my opinion, there needs to be less plastic and more metal to secure the chisel portion as well as two screws on each side instead of just one to the side. I install 3 to 8 hardwood doors per day and this tool does great at centering and marking the latch location, but the on tool chisel fails within a few doors. Once I mark the outline, it is time to use a wood chisel or router to clear material from the latch location. There is room for improving the durability of this tool.

Great Tool You have to have If you have the Ryobi door boring jig tool
Used this little gem on three non bored doors after I used the other Ryobi door boring jig. It set the mortise for the lock plate just right. It is made to cut it only so deep to fit the thickness of the lock plate. Now dont be afraid to wack it good. It cuts it then you set the little cutter onto the side lock bore hole anf tap it down or up to remove the mortise you placed with the cutter. The instructions are simple to follow. I got great results. Very happy with it.

Item was received very quickly and was packaged very well. Now there is something about a man and his tools, the ladies like their hair and nails etc,us men like our tools and gadgets. If you have been swinging doors for a few years chaps then by now marking out and cutting a latch is probably second nature but if you are like me i will give anything a go if it makes my life a little easier or quicker so i thought, why not, lets give it a shot. The tool itself is solidly made, impact resistant plastic which is just as well as you do impact it to say the least.Made with a reversible plate for both 30 or 40mm doors, drill hole for latch, offer up the tool and bang it.I have got to say it cuts and marks out for the latch very well, few taps with a chisel and all done, pretty smart. There is a curious little black blade thing that after marking you are supposed to insert in the hole and tap to remove the bulk of the latch plate depth but it is pretty useless so i removed it.There is also a screwdriver bit fitted on to the side with a receiving hole for it to fit into but every time you hit the tool it flew out so i binned it.I bought it so i persevered for a bit and found that it was cutting the depth and the outline for the latch very well which makes it just a few taps with a chisel and the job is done.If i was fitting one or two doors here and there i wouldn`t bother but when you are doing several doors i have to admit, bung it in the hole give it a whack job done, dont even need a pencil and every latch fitting nice and tight and neat, jobs a good un.See what you think, hope this helps, cheers

You have to understand what this is. It is not a homeowners magic jig. It is a carpenters chisel. If you don't know how to control the force of a hammer, ensure square and centered, and how to predict when wood will split, then this tool is not for you. You can wreck a door with this tool just as easily as you can with a chisel. However, if you are handy, then this tool can help improve the quality of your job while also helping to work faster. You will still need a chisel but this is a great jig. One note of caution. I found that it generally digs a bit too deep. I'm not really sure how to correct this. It wasn't a show stopper, but something to be mindful of.

Struggled for many years to fit door locks with varying levels of success ( with or without additional repairs/replacements) ! I saw this kit on a youtube video.. this makes the process simple, quick. I fitted deadbolts to 5 doors very quickly and with minimal mess. comes with all parts. It really is a time and effort saver.. if you use it more than once it will pay for itself over and over. all I would say is that it would be nice if it had an adjustment for the cutter on the top, but you can offset this if your careful. Great addition to the companion tool..
