It can be reasonably accurate, since this particular temperature gun allows one to change the emissivity variable for different surface materials (most cheaper IR guns have a specific factor hardwired in, and are not good for different materials with surfaces with variable reflectivity/emissivity). If you don't have a thermometer with a contact probe to make a direct comparison to determinte the correct setting for a given material, you'd need to some research ("Google is your friend") to determine a "reasonable estimate" for the material you want to test.

This product is not designed to measure body temperature. It is very accurate over a wide range of temperatures, but in order to get a meaningful reading of  body temperature you need a different type of infrared thermometer that is "dialed-in" to a very narrow temperature range of about 90 to 110ºF, and these thermometers will give you roughly ±0.4ºF accuracy. They are also designed to measure the temperature in your ear, a fairly good approximation of core body temperature.Now technically, you can indeed measure the surface temperature of your skin with this thermometer, but the result will not be that useful. You will only get the surface temperature of your skin, which can vary greatly compared to your core body temperature. This skin temperature reading will not have a lot of "medical significance."Regarding the laser: While the power of the laser is relatively low (<1mW), it also can easily be turned off on this model (yellow button), and the accuracy of the reading is not affected by whether it's on or off. The two lasers are designed to accurately pin-point the spot you're measuring, they are not part of the temperature measurement process itself.

You can take measurements at 50 feet, but at that distance your measurement area (circle) needs to be 5 feet in diameter. At 10 feet it should be a circle of 1 foot in diameter, and at 8 inches it should be at least 0.8 inches in diameter. This relationship is determined by the "distance to spot ratio" of the device, and for the ennoLogic eT650D it is 10:1. So divide your distance by 10 and that gives you the diameter of the measurement area that the IR thermometer "sees".
50 feet is not the limit, you can measure at even larger distances. You just have to keep in mind that the measurement area gets progressively larger as well. If your target is smaller than that area, you're measurement result will be off.
The dual lasers come in very handy here. Most people think a dual laser device limits you to the distance where the two laser dots merge (for this device that's 8 inches.) But that's not true. When you measure areas from larger distances, the two laser dots tell you where your measurement area is located, which is a circle inside the two laser dots. So imagine a circle where both laser dots lie on the circumference of that circle. That's your measurement spot.
A single laser device only gives you one laser dot, and you assume that dot is right in the center of your measurement spot. But that's often not true (it may be slightly off center), and you won't know how large your measurement spot is. The two lasers of the eT650D indicate the size of the measurement spot - the width of that spot (or circle) is defined by the two laser dots.
And you can also use this dual laser infrared thermometer to measure objects that are closer than the 8-inch optimum distance at which the dots merge into one. In that case, your measurement spot becomes smaller. At 5 inches it would be a circle of 0.5 inches in diameter. (Due to limitations of the IR sensor and its geometry though you can't get a spot much smaller than 0.5 inches, so you can't go to a 1 inch distance and expect to get a 0.1 inch measurement spot.)
