What the measurements inside the lid? My current dish always hits the top and sides of the butter. (to small) That is irritating.

I measured it. It's right about 7 inches. I also put a stick of butter in the lid and there is at least an inch of room to spare.

This butter dish is under $6.00 at Walmart. Why so expensive here?

Will it hold block size butter European style?

No it does not. I have this and you have to trip European butter like Kerrygold to fit; you can't put the whole stick in there.
