Corelle Winter Frost White Dinner Plates Set (10-1/4-Inch, 6-Piece)

Nice, shiny white plates. The plates and their shiny finish arrived intact and have held up well to sharp, steak knives and rough, hand washing. We just moved, and we had been getting tired of doing the whole "wash a plate to have a plate" thing, but also didn't need a large cookware set. This product size suited our needs perfectly and it seems like the plates are going to last a very long time. My grandmother still uses the Corelle plates that she bought way back in the 70's, and these look very similar.

My husband and I are in the kitchen all the time. At least once a month, one of us will drop a plate in the sink or on the floor. So, we need pieces that will work for us (they have to be durable and functional) and they have to be able to grow with us (that means the pattern cannot be retired in 6 months). I started buying Corelle shortly after my wedding six years ago with two of Corelle's Corelle Livingware 16 piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Winter Frost White . I still have most of those original pieces. As I've begun to host gatherings, my kitchen collection has expanded significantly. I've purchased Corelle Livingware 12-1/4-Inch Serving Platter, Winter Frost White and Corelle Livingware 9-1/2-Inch Oval Platter, Winter Frost White and Corelle Livingware 10-1/4-Inch Divided Dish, Winter Frost White , which are especially useful for little ones. For 2014, I needed more dinner plates in Winter Frost. Amazon had a sale that was six plates for under 10 bucks; normally six plates are around $20. I ordered four sets and the plates that arrived perfectly matched the set I bought six years ago after my wedding. Nearly all of Corelle's pieces are products I would buy for others. When I meet individuals registering for their weddings, I always suggest Corelle over the pretty-pattered ceramic dishes that so easily crack. These Corelle dishes would be perfect for a couple's new home; they are well-made and a good size. In addition to being a well-made product, this particular color has two advantages: 1) Expandable set: The first advantage is that Corelle has a lot of other pieces that come in this color. As noted, I had reached the point in my life when it was time to expand the set. Even though six years had passed, the plates matched my old dinnerware set perfectly. As you need serving bowls and platters, they are easily available. This is the perfect product and color for a family that is rough with plates and/or is potentially expanding. You will be able to find a matching piece and those pieces will endure through the years. 2) White is adaptable: The second advantage is the actual white color. You can make any piece look as dressy or casual as you want by pairing fancier or more casual tablecloths and placements with the dishes. Many people seem apprehensive to purchase white dinnerware for fear of staining. You don't need to worry about that with Corelle. I frequently use Corelle dishes to reheat pasta with marinara sauce and foods that incorporate dark sauces like soy or teriyaki. My dishes are still perfectly white. I really love Corelle's products. You can expand this set to fit the needs of your family and the white color is perfect for casual dinners, larger family affairs, or fancy parties. You have to be very, very brutal to your plates to get one to chip. I highly recommend this product. Typically, you can buy items at a discount, especially if you sign up for the email newsletter. Unless you are buying several items from their site, however, it may not be worth it because the free shipping threshold is (usually) higher than Amazon.

Item is fantastic but sadly I received one of the plates broken at the edges. The item was not packed in bubble paper like the Coral bowls which reached me safe and sound. The sellers immediate response for return of the item is appreciated. I'll get the refund once the item reach the seller as texted to me. I wish the plates were packed in bubble papers, they would have reached me safely.

I was very annoyed with this purchase. One of the plates has a defect, but when I wanted to return it I found that the return postage is exorbitant.

OK, the truth is my husband bought these. We finally broke enough of the old plates that we needed something new. We are pretty simple folks and live in very small quarters. We like many things about these plates (and the matching bowls too). First, while unpacking them, my husband dropped one. As we watched it (in Matrix slo-mo) head toward the floor, I figured we now had 5 plates left. SURPRISE! It bounced, clanged and stayed in ONE PIECE. No apparent damage at all! We have linoleum, so it is not the hardest possible surface, but we were pleasantly surprised that the plate survived. Durability looks GREAT! The plain white appearance is very pleasant and goes with ANY décor. We could dress up the table with crystal and silver, and the white plates would look elegant. We could take them on a picnic, and the white plates would look classic. They style fits in easily. The diameter is good. We are trying to avoid the JUMBO PLATE, JUMBO PORTIONS, JUMBO WAISTLINE problem, so we even thought about buying the lunch size, but decided against those. This size allows good portions, but not abusive portions. We like the diameter. These plates are VERY THIN. Surprisingly thin, and light. We have used heavy "stoneware" or ceramic plates in the past. These plates, on the other hand are not even 1/4" thick (probably 1/8" or 3/16") and weigh only a few ounces each. They are perfectly formed to nestle down into a VERY small space. All 6 plates stacked up are only about 1.5" tall (including the curve of the plates)! The surprisingly small area needed to store these plates would make them GREAT in a camper or RV or any home with a tiny kitchen. We like them! Besides, it is easy to bring a stack of 6 to the table with one hand (which I could not do with 6 stoneware plates!) The surface finish of these plates is very smooth. This makes them easy to clean as food slides off easily. Even dried egg yolk scrubs off easily. If you are hand washing dishes (as we do), the smooth surface makes it easy to confirm you have indeed cleaned it thoroughly because the clear water rinse sheets off so evenly and smoothly over the clean surface, it obviously shows any areas that are not clean. Overall, we are VERY, VERY pleased with this purchase! PS - They seem to be popular, so if they are "back ordered" don't despair. We got ours in about 2 weeks even though it said it would take about 2 months. Of course, there's no certainty your order will be shipped as quickly, but just letting you know it happened to us. :)
