Sammi Smith, who died in Feb. 2005, had an exemplary reputation in the country music world. After some regional success, she became a resident of Nashville in the early '70s where she gained a reputation as a singer who was not going to compromise her integrity for the Nashville 'method' of attaining stardom. This attitude brought her into the circle of performers then known as "outlaws" where she befriended those artists at the forefront of the movement, including Kris Kristofferson, who gave her his latest song "Help Me Make It Through the Night" which became not only a Country #1, but also a pop top ten hit too. This CD contains the original "Help Me Make It Through the Night" LP plus a selection of her other Mega label singles and album tracks. Acrobat. 2005.

Get a Life, Already! Be thankful for this CD!
In response to those who have been criticizing this CD because it does not meet their level of expectations, I have 2 comments: First of all, this CD was released by Acrobat, a British label which has released some of the best of the hard-to-find music mostly of the 50's, music that American labels ignore. Although their releases might not be up to the standard we expect of those recorded today, you have to remember that most of their music was recorded decades ago, and although there is some variation in the quality of their releases, overall they do a very good job in bringing to life music that no other label wants to touch! Secondly, the sound is not as bad as it has been painted. After reading the reviews, I rejected this CD numberous times. However, I finally decided to give it a shot, especially with the low cost. I am quite happy that I did, because I think that even though some of the songs may have somewhat of a "tin-ny" sound, the sound is quite adequate; moreover, I am extremely happy to finally get a clean copy of my favorite Sammi Smith song, her "B" side "When Michael Calls." I couldn't possibly have asked for a better copy at this price. Besides, I never expected to find this song on any of her CD's. There are numerous CD's available by this artist, so if you are looking for the "same-old-same-old" songs that are repeated on all of them, then there are better choices. However, if you are looking for her music that you never expected to find on CD, grab this one while it is still available. To the Acrobat label, I say "Thank you for bringing us music that no one else wants to touch!"

Soulful music
I had this album on an 8 track tape. When I no longer had a way to play it, I didn't think I'd ever hear Sammi's great songs again. Then I found the album as a cd. I keep it in my car and listen to it every time I drive.

Sounds like it did "back in the day". Momma played the 8 track. I loved her music by age 5.
I loved everything about it. It comes with extra songs (some I've never heard of).My favorite song is "Saunders Ferry Lane".

Good buy
A lot of Sammi's songs for the money. A few I hadn't heard before, but my favorites were all there.

A forgotten country music icon
I recently saw Lorrie Morgan in concert. She shared some stories of Sammie Smith, as well as sung some of her songs flawlessly!!! It made me realize I needed to learn more about SS, and get some of her music in my CD player! FANTASTIC CD!!!! Especially for long mountain drives trying to forget about this crazy world for awhile.

What's Wrong With This?????????????
I see so many reviewers giving this CD a bad wrap. I don't UNDERSTAND WHY???? I see NOTHING WRONG with this CD. I'm VERY HAPPY with it I couldn't have asked for BETTER! Some of you reviewers had a beef with the sound quality I think the sound is fine. I don't think I could have done any better with the sound if I had made this CD from records here at home if I had had these songs on record. I LOVE Sammi Smith I think she has and AWESOME voice and her songs are GREAT!!!!!!

Memorial Album
I have always loved Sammi Smith's voice. She passed away in 2005 and left a legacy of great country music. There are 25 songs on this album. Songs include Sunday Mornin Comin Down, With Pen in Hand, Lonely Street, When Michael Calls, Mr. Bojangles, Help Me Make it Through The Night, and other great songs. If you loved her, you will be pleased with this album.
