Q: Is it safe to mount on drywall?

Yes, we mounted it in our garage on dry wall. My husband did make sure it was mounted on a stud as well.

Q: Will it rust? Want to attach outside exposed to weather.

It will break way before it rusts, the handles are flimsy metal, and once you bend them you can not bend them back, ours lasted 2 weeks sent it back, Amazon was great about a fast refund
