Two CD set from the under-appreciatedDavid Allan Coe: 4 Classic Albums 1974-1978 by one of the most colourful and talented characters in country music history - DAVID ALLAN COE. The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy (1974), Once upon a Rhyme (1974), Longhaired Redneck (1976) and Rides Again (1977) are the first four classic albums Coe recorded for Columbia Records. This collection adds bonus tracks from a further two Columbia LPs, Tattoo and Family Album (both 1978). Coe went on to record a further 20 albums during his 13-year association with Columbia. His 1975 cover of Steve Goodman's 'You Never Even Call Me by My Name' (from Once upon a Rhyme) cracked the Billboard Country Top 10. Furthermore it was around this time that Coe became one of Nashville's hottest songwriters - Willie Nelson, George Jones and Tammy Wynette had already covered his songs and both Tanya Tucker's version of 'Would You Lay with Me (In A Field of Stone)' and Johnny Paycheck's version of 'Take This Job And Shove It' were #1 Country hits. Coe's own recordings of both songs appear on this outstanding collection, the high-water mark for outlaw country music. Other highlights include his songs 'A Sad Country Song', 'Longhaired Redneck' and 'Willie, Waylon and Me' plus covers of Mickey Newbury's 'The 33rd of August', Guy Clark's 'Desperados Waiting for the Train', Tom Jans' 'Shine it On' and Dave Loggins' 'Please Come To Boston'. "Coe was among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career, a life-long renegade and one of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s." - All Music Guide. With 47 tracks, 150 minutes of superb audio quality, color booklet and detailed liner notes.

Turn Someone You Know Onto David Allan Coe
I've seen imported reissues of David's classic albums go for around $20 each. Each set contains 2 albums. I've always waited to see if I could get a better price. Once I saw this set, I knew I had to get it! Four of his best albums, all in one set, on 2 CD's! I purchased this for about $15. No complaints at all about the music. One of the best songwriters in the world!I would have liked to see Human Emotions included in this set, but beggars can't be choosers. These albums are all great! There are bonus tracks on each CD, that weren't on the original albums, which puts the icing on the cake! My only problem is that, like with most 2-Disc CD's, the case is a pain in the rear. A digipak or jacket would've worked better, but the costs for mass production are different. No big deal. It doesn't affect the value at all. The music's great, regardless of the packaging! Also, just to throw this in, the audio quality is great! Sometimes in reissue sets, the audio quality's not the best, but this one really impressed me!I highly recommend this for anyone looking to buy David Allan Coe music! It's a great place to start, and a great way to catch up if you were missing these from your collection, like me!

This set has some real masterpieces - a treat for the ears and stimulating to the mind -each song paints a vivid picture of a life. Each one a single part of a whole. Crazy Mary-River-33rd of August-Bossier City-and Wood and Steel are just a few of the choice cuts contained in this collection. This also contains some hits as well but the deep album tracks shine.

Pure David Allan Coe Gold
Along the years I have owned each of these albums on vinyl. I may have had one or two on CD. This set gives you all the good stuff from those early years in two convenient CDS. I loaded these into my car and headed off for a 3 hour drive, cranked on the stereo and relived the outlaw country movement. Awesome.

Great CD, but mine is defective.
The 2nd CD only plays to track 7 and will not go any further. I was very sad. Rides Again was the reason I bought this. Tried it in several different players. Bummed out!

Wow what a collection
Unbelievably hard to get hold of all these as originals. Couldn't believe how good this set is. Sure the music changes in style and quality but overall it's superb . You have to give this a go to see just how good DAC can be. This is country music for fun, love, drinks and anger. Real as can be.
