can this be used to fill knot holes in syp pressure treated decks and docks?

Basic: Yes. I would clean the hole with lacquer thinner first. Let it dry then fill. I've used it for repairing an area on a dock that held a fitting. Once filled and cured, I was able to drill and tap it to hold screws. Stuff's incred!

Can this material be drilled and have a screw placed?

Yes it can, but drill a pilot hole for the screw. Another option if filling a screw hole (because the hole became too large) is to almost fill the hole with the compound, coat the screw with a light coat of petroleum jelly and insert it through a hole in a thin piece of wood or metal that also has a light coat of petroleum jelly on the bottom, and then press the screw into the compound. The wood/metal keeps the compound in the hole and compressed against the screw threads. The petroleum jelly keeps the compound from adhering to the screw and wood/metal strip. After the compound has setup, remove the screw and you have perfect screw threads for the replacement screw.

If it's new, is it supposed to look like someone pressed it into the container with their fingers/hands?

My item did not look like that when purchased. If I were you, I would go more by the appearance of the box, and whether the stuff works. Follow the directions exactly, and it hardens like rock.

I read that you can add stain to the mixture to change the color. Is this true? If so, will it change the consistency so it won’t harden properly?

You can add pigment to the WoodEpox product to change the color, and it does not change the consistency.

Very good for people who don’t have an experience with this kind of stuff 😁

In two boxes is a paste which I’ve melted in my hands wearing first gloves. It’s ready in two minutes but to shape it was better after another 10 minutes. The filler was very good for me because doesn’t dry in seconds so I’ve had a time to put it everywhere where I needed and even I could move from one place where I used it too much to another hole where I didn’t have enough of filler. So far I’m happy with the product but we can see in a year 😁
