Lasted 3 1/2 years
I guess these days if an appliance lasts 3 1/2 years that is a good thing. I remember how something would last years and years. I felt it worthy to share that I bought this water flosser in Nov 2022 and it stopped working June 2026. It gradually lost its power storage capacity over the last year but the water pressure, the speed, and ease of use continued up until the end. Impressive by todayโs standards. Since I love to read reviews about longevity, Iโm here to share my own.

The Missing Piece of My Oral Care Routine
After conducting extensive product research into water flossers and premium oral-care systems, I chose the Waterpik ION Professional Cordless Water Flosser, and it has exceeded my expectations. I specifically wanted a high-quality countertop water flosser that offered strong performance without adding unnecessary clutter to my bathroom. The rechargeable cordless design was a major reason I selected the ION. It looks clean and modern, the reservoir is large enough for a complete session, and the battery life makes it convenient to use without keeping it constantly connected to an outlet. The cleaning performance is excellent. It reaches between the teeth and along the gumline in areas that brushing alone simply cannot clean as effectively. My mouth feels noticeably fresher, and my entire routine feels much more complete. I pair it with the Oral-B iO Series 9 Limited Electric Toothbrush with Ultimate Clean Brush Head. I also researched that purchase extensively and initially compared it with the Oral-B iO Series 10. Oral-B Customer Service, which was excellent, explained that the iO Series 9 Limited Edition was released after the iO Series 10 and recommended it as the latest option in the market. Together, these two products create an outstanding oral-care system. The Waterpik ION handles the spaces between the teeth and around the gumline, while the Oral-B iO Series 9 Limited provides a thorough and polished brushing experience. I did not choose this combination casually. I compared products, features, design, technology, and convenience before deciding. After using both, I genuinely believe the Waterpik ION Professional Cordless Water Flosser and the Oral-B iO Series 9 Limited are among the best oral-care products available and work even better as a pair.

Third time is the charm.
I started out with a Waterpik Aquarius, which is a very good water flosser. But my sink/countertop is set up so awkwardly (despite being rather spacious) that the electrical cord got in the way, and it was all too bulky to fit properly. Then I got a cordless, hand-held version that was so under-powered and puny that it just didn't do a good job. I hated that one. Finally, the Ion โ works like the Aquarius, but slimmer and smaller, and cordless! I've had it for more than a week now, and am really happy with it. I charged it up (as instructed) before using, and haven't yet had to recharge it. It does have a proprietary charger that goes into a USB slot, but that's okay โ wish everything could just be a "C" but I get it. It comes with an array of tips, but my dentist told me to use the 'pik pocket' for gum health (and it seems like Waterpik is the only brand with that kind of tip?). Plenty of water in the tank (for two people, even), easy to fill and easy to clean, and I love the way the tubing snaps back into its circular holder. Hope that part keeps working well. And yes, it fits well on my counter, out of the way, with no electrical cord to deal with.

They all die is less than two years and the battery can't be replaced
I think the battery management is poorly done. I bought one of these and liked it, so I got my Mom the same exact one. Mom left her's plugged in 24/7, used it daily and the battery would no longer take a charge after about 18 months. I only charged mine when the light blinked to indicate that it wanted charging - mine lasted about 2 years with daily use. I feel like this sort of product should last a lot longer than that - we can't keep filling our landfills with plastic - and batteries, because I don't really believe that anybody removes and recycles the battery before trashing it when it dies. This is a design flaw. I bet every unit of this particular model dies in 2 years or less due to battery failure thanks to poorly designed battery management. I love this unit's features, size, portability... And $99 every 2 years to have healthy gums isn't too bad. But, I just can't get behind the attitude that it's ok for products like this to last such a short time. Also, I don't recall seeing this anywhere in the instructions - but it's not legal (and not safe) to travel with this device in your checked bags - carry-on only. But, seriously, buy a different one, it can't be worse. Edit: I really couldn't stand to toss it and I've got an EE degree and skills. It turns out that the battery inside is a very standard one easily purchased on the internet and, if you can solder, easily replaced. And, surprise, brand new battery does NOT fix the issue. If you to an internet search about replacing the battery on this exact model of flosser, you'll get thousands of hits. There are a lot of people out there with these and many of them are dead and the battery is not supposed to be user replaceable and stop trying because to won't help. That said, I do not like any of the 'travel' or portable ones with a tank that you hold while flossing. And, I don't like the way the other brands work. Waterpik makes a 'travel flosser' called 'Sidekick'. https://www.amazon.com/Waterpik-Sidekick-Water-Flosser-copper/dp/B0795WSJJ6/ref=sr_1_1_pp. Sidekick does not have a battery so you can legally put it in your checked bag - it operates on line voltage and is specifically 120/240v and 50/60Hz compatible so it can operate anywhere with a simple plug adapter. So, I got one and I use it at home too - the tank could be a little bit bigger - but it works and there is no battery in it to die in less than 2 years.

Vinegar fixes charging
I bought this in December of 2023. As is typical, the unit stops charging after several months. I had it replaced under warranty and the new unit is doing the same thing. I'm now 2 years out from the original purchase. I keep it in the shower so I can't entirely blame the product, but with the second device, I've kept the charge port covered with cellophane and a rubber band. The issue is oxidation on the charging contacts. As long as it doesn't get rusty like my first one got, you can easily get it to charge by using a q-tip with white vinegar. It's amazing that just a few second treatment does the job. But you have to do it every time. You can actually tell there's an impending problem when during use it starts to flash like it does when it's ready to charge but then shuts off before completing the last use. When it's newer, you certainly have enough power left at that point to make it through the last clean. Anyway, I give it still a four star because it is such a good flosser otherwise. There's no other battery powered flosser with this kind of power, water capacity and portability. What's weird? Is that Waterpik surely knows about this issue and hasn't done anything about it. Wireless charging or even just a water tight cap over the charging port would probably solve the problem.

Awesome Product Support! Problem fixed
Update to below reviews on this product! I raised my rating to 5 stars for awesome product support. I thought my WaterPik finally died after two years. I discovered it was under a 3-year warranty so I called product support. After asking me a number of questions, the product support representative walked me through a number of steps to fix it. Voila! My favorite WaterPik was alive again! Thank you!!!! --- Original review in February: I purchased this to replace an aging 4 year old Waterpik. I hesitated because some reviews cited low pressure because it was battery-powered. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Any more powerful and the water jet would probably rip my gums. Yes, I took a gamble and am glad I did. This model is ideal for me because I travel. The rechargeable feature and the small footprint are advantages. I really like the slow pulsing when the unit starts running low on charge. It's simply and it's built so the parts are easy to clean. Glad I tried it! Follow on review in November - 9 months later: It just stopped! Dead! Disappointing. It was nice when it worked... That's it for me! Follow on review on December 4 - Waterpik product support helped me fix this! I was informed that this product was still under warranty, so I called Waterpik. Customer support was helpful and helped me troubleshoot the problem. It is now working again, but am watching carefully. I suspect issue with the weak magnetic connection on the charging cable. But so my Waterpik is back alive! Thank you Waterpik.

Love it, perhaps I got a bad unit? Leaked after 1-2 months + on/off button, charge problems.
UPDATE July 19, 2022: After reading Waterpik's excellent support pages, I'm increasing my rating. I'd never cleaned it. I worked the valve in the tank open/closed (the valve is not one of the removable valves), I ran water + vinegar through the parts, flushed them all out with water, and charged it up fully again. It seems to be running like new; did not leak and gave full pressure. If I have to clean it every six months, that's OK with me. ORIGINAL review: I've been using this product for about 7 months. Functionality: GREAT! After 6 months, my dentist, who always bugs me about not flossing, needing deep cleaning, needing 3 or more visits/year, said my teeth and gums were better than they've ever seen them. They found no problems, and told me to just keep up the great work! I'm over 60 and sleep with my mouth open, so gum "pockets", gum disease, etc. is a real threat for me. It is also easy to use, and the charge usually lasted me at least 2 weeks with 1 use per day on highest setting (I had to get used to that setting, but after a few days, that was the setting I always used). The problem is with reliability. I can't have it leaking a big puddle of water onto my counter almost every time I fill it. I can't have the on/off button get stuck such that it on longer turns of or on, and I have to let it dry out and/or recharge it for hours before the button starts working properly for a few more days. BTW, I did not drop or abuse the unit in any way. I'll probably try a competing product to see if the functionality will be similar, but with more reliability. The one thing I'm sure of is I will continue to use some type of water flosser.

Thank goodness for the warranty!
This flosser is great when it works. It has great water pressure and does an excellent job of getting everything out between the teeth. We tend to use the standard tip, so havenโt tried all the tips they provide with the machine. Why 3 stars? Sadly, it has been replaced under warranty over the two years since we purchased it three times! Twice the unit suddenly started to turn on when no water was in the reservoir and we werenโt even using it. Like a ghost was in the house playing tricks on us. The other time, the button to turn on the unit suddenly got stuck and we couldnโt turn it on. Customer service at Waterpik is terrific. Always very helpful. The unit comes with a three year warranty and they have honored it fully. For this reason alone, I would consider purchasing a different Waterpik model unit when the warranty on this one expires next year.

Just perfect
I initially wanted a corded countertop, but with no shaving point in the bathroom, I had to go for this one. And I'm really glad I did. Much smaller footprint, but the water tank is still ample for a 2 minute session. A fabulous range of tips, including special ones for gum problems, as well as braces & bridges. Only thing that would make them even better is the option of different coloured rings...or some other way of differentiating different family members' tips. (Not a deal breaker, but a nice-to-have.) As advised, I started at the lowest setting, but I'm sure I can progress to the recommended setting quickly. Even at #1, my teeth feel cleaner, tho it's #7 for optimal plaque removal. Way more effective (& easier!) than floss or interdental brushes. & a big plus for me is the small, slim handle - I just couldnt get on with the huge bulky handles of cordless models with built-in water tanks. Unlike lots of water flossers, you can also use antibacterial mouth wash, if you follow cleaning instructions. It's well worth watching a You Tube video to perfect your technique, especially if you're unfamiliar with water flossers - I loved Teeth Teacher, who demonstrates the actual Ion model as well as technique. Easy to use when you know how! Would also recommend reading the manual, especially for how to prime for first use & how to clean (v important if you have hard water.) Noise level isn't an issue for me, but doesn't seem excessive anyway. Not cheap, but if you want a large water capacity, a well-known brand, a slim handle & easily replaceable tips, this is unbeatable. Delighted & highly recommend!
