More Than Just Pretty
If you were alive and conscious in 1970s America, you knew about Bob Mackie – because you watched the Carol Burnett show, weekly. The crazy curtain outfit when Carol played Scarlet O’Hara, or the dumb, stacked and stuffed Mrs. Wiggins opposite Tim Conway. It was all Mackie. But Frank reveals what the casual observer doesn’t know about Bob but would want to when considering this book. TV variety shows, Broadway Theatre, musicals, one- woman shows by a hen house of famous divas. Mackie dressed them all. They were his muses as Frank calls them . And all were household names: Cher, Ann Margret, Bernadette Peters, Juliet Prowse – even a man, of sorts, Elton John dressed in his crazy 70s best.Buy it for the lush photography and the quality packaging that make it an excellent coffee table book, but read it for the highly skilled drawings by Mackie, which I wasn’t familiar with before I bought this book, and of course for the energy of Frank’s enthusiastic and knowledgeable prose. Who knew Ethel Merman had a disco album?

The book is most excellent representation of Bob Mackie's work over the years
The hardcover book had minor damage in transit on the corners and was poorly packed (the paper cover had folds in it), but was not bad enough to bother replacing. The Contents of the book itself on the other hand, I am glad I bought this when I saw that it existed. Bob Mackie is one of my favorite fashion designers and while I knew a lot of the people he had designed for, the book detailed even more of them. I love that it is a mix of his drawings and then some pictures of the final work together. This is what a fashion book should be.I don't own a lot of fashion books, but am very very glad I saw and then bought this one. Highly recommend to any fan of fashion and especially if a fan of Bob Mackie's fashions

A must have for CHER followers
This great book just touches on the designs Bob has done. There is sooooo much more. Without him, I don't think a lot of the stars he dressed would have gotten as famous as they have. I'm sure they'll agree with that too. The book is beautiful. Beautiful paper and done so well. I thought it would have cost much more than the selling price here. I would love to know how to get it to Bob Mackie to autograph it. OR..... buy another, have him autograph it and mail it to me. Heck.... I'll be happy to go to LA and pick it up myself. Maybe Cher, Carol Burnett, Ann-Margaret and others can sign it also. Sure....... Yeah..... right. I can dream, can't I? I love it just the same. Definitely add this to your collection.

A beautiful tribute to Bob Mackie and the ladies he dressed
What a gorgeously produced coffee table book! I so enjoyed looking at all the clothes Mr. Mackie designed. I don't think there will ever be such a situation again, where such a talented designer created gowns for so many talented women. My mother and I used to watch the Carol Burnett show after dinner, and it was something we both enjoyed together. Later we watched Cher, and enjoyed that show as well. Those were shows that brought happiness into your home. Bob Mackie provided the gorgeous costuming as well as the costumes that made you laugh out loud. No one will ever come close to equaling his career. I will treasure this book.

most beautiful book I have ever had
Authors did not hold back on color throughout the book . Well worth the price. It will go up in value. Color printing is very expensive to do , expecially with a large book like this. Only thing that would be better if Bob had signed the book. I have loved his work since he started. Marilyn Monroe was my favorite and Cher also a favorite. Thanks, Bob for your beautiful book. I will treasure it and my daughter will inherit it. She will flip when she sees it. Donna.
