What is the purpose of so much biotin? I've just realized that it is masking my thyroid lab levels.

There are numerous reports of biotin interference with laboratory testing, specifically with thyroid function tests leading to possible false results which in turn can potentially result in a wrong diagnosis or the wrong treatments given to patients. The ATA has recommended that patients stop taking biotin for at least 2 days before thyroid testing to avoid the risk of having a misleading test. Another published research mentioned: We observed normalization of the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and free T4 measurements when the patient withheld biotin for a week. So it appears that Biotin supplementation should be paused for at least two to five days prior to testing to ensure the best chance for test accuracy.

Not sure but you can call the manufacture. If. done it before because I have a rice allergy and most gluten free products contain rice. The label says free of wheat, milk, eggs, shellfish, peanuts and nuts. It has cellulose as a drying agent, not corn not rice, which is what I look for because I have allergies/intolerances/sensitivities to all grains, except corn, plus dairy. Seeking Health are usually free of allergens and I use a lot of their supplements for this reason, but if you want to be sure, I would call them 1800 547 9812 or check Seeking Health.com . I am just a customer (not a seller), and I've done that before, especially to find dairy free probiotics with no rice nor grains, etc. because some drying agents may be rice or corn and I am not sure because of their names or chemical components or names. For example malate is from corn.

I think what you may be referring to is the folate portion of the methylation system. Niacin can be used to balance a folate overload on the system. In some people with compound heterozygous MTHFR, too much folate will bottleneck in the Methylation cycle causing a type of panic attack feeling (rapid heartbeat, chest tightness, dizziness, mild shortness of breath) and niacin can help process the folate and almost immediately resolve this issue. So it doesn’t get rid of the folate, it just helps it process it through alternative pathways… (as I understand it via my functional medicine doc.) If I have eaten a large amount of folate rich foods such as fresh greens, oranges and seeds in a particular day, I can almost guarantee I will be woke up in the middle of the night with one of these panic attacks. The cure is the 50 mg niacin sublingual lozenges; usually resolves it in under 60 seconds… on a few occasions, it would return within 10 minutes so a second one was needed. I now take 100-200 mg of niacin daily and I have more energy and no more panic attacks. For decades I thought I suffered from panic attacks but that’s all changed now that I know it was caused by my MTHFR
