A few years later
It's been a few years and we've probably eaten these once a month during that entire period. Yes they are prepackaged and dried. Yes the noodles are not absolutely fresh. But they are really really terrific. We add shrimp or chicken or tofu or any other protein, along with lots and lots of vegetables, and it's a brilliant filling dinner.A few tips. We cook the noodles in a separate pot of water, and we drain them but don't bother rinsing in cold water. Before we put the noodles into cook we already have our bowls set out, with everything that's going to be added. Those are given a 15 or 20 second microwave spin just before the noodles are done, to take the edge off the refrigerator cold.We have in the past added sesame oil, hot oil, crunchy garlic with chili oil, chopped up scallions or toasted onion as a garnish. Pretty much anything works if you like it.

Very tasty!
I watched some videos online where chefs were asked to taste different instant noodle varieties and comment on them. Every time they tried this one, they had good things to say about it. I decided to order a package and try it out. I have to say, it was an incredibly pleasant surprise. The noodles are about as good as any you're going to get in an instant ramen package, and better than some of the cheaper brands. The sauce, though, is what really sets these apart. It's creamy and delicious, like something you might order take-out from a restaurant. Major improvement over similar instant noodle products. With the addition of some protein and veggies, you could probably fool some folks into thinking they're getting something from a restaurant. I definitely recommend these.

Deal with the smell
To respond to the reviewers that were put off by the smell of the paste. Yes, it is strong when you open the package. I was surprised at first. But when boiling the mixture, the smell went way down. By the time the whole thing was ready to eat, the bad smell was gone. The dish is delicious, but not for everyone. I have friends who could not handle it. Try a single package first.

Delicious
Delicious as a base and a very generous portion (which I split into two meals) but it does need more water than it suggests to dilute the sodium and you need to add a couple of frozen shrimp, a hard-boiled egg, and some veggies -fresh shallots, mushrooms, spinach, bamboo shoots, cilantro etc - for a balanced soup.

Garbage noodles
These noodles were awful!! I saw so many good reviews online and wanted to try them. While I was cooking, it smelled awful, but I wanted to give it a chance. I tried them and instantly gagged. The flavor was terrible! It tasted like shrimp gone bad. Waste of money!

Decent if it was less salty
All these instant noodles contain too much salt. Not healthy. This one is far better tasting than any I've had before but unfortunately using half the shrimp packet (a trick I use with lesser brands to cut the aggressive saltiness) weakens the flavor dramatically. Too bad as the coconut packet adds a lot of flavor but not enough on it's own. Frankly I don't know why ALL these things are so darn salty. Salt can always easily be added but never subtracted. It's time for these makers to get with the contemporary modern sodium recommendations. Not only that, but it's time to reduce the sodium for taste reasons. All are way too salty.

The smell of SE Asia
I first had Laska in a lakeside hotel in Yangon Burma. I loved it then and had it a number of times during my visits. This is excellent.
