Selected Stories of Guy de Maupassant: Introduction by Catriona Seth (Everyman's Library Classics Series)

I expected witty, slight, nineteenth century froth but the stories are often penetrating studies of characters failing their fellows.Personalities are sketched in swiftly and are convincing. There are twists in some tales, but the main twists are with the characters in those tales.An excellent selection and l look forward to reading some longer works of Guy de Maupassant.

Guy de Maupassant is one of the greatest writers of short stories of all time. His stories may be short but they pack a punch and are often thought provoking. The Everyman edition is great quality, as can be expected.
