The actual scales feel solid, extremely well built. The digital readout is plenty large and easy to read. Also has a built in kick stand to prop the display unit up at about a 45% angle on a flat surface. No backlighting of any kind, could be a problem for old eyes in a dimly lit shop, I'm not there yet, so I don't know. To justify this to the wife, if she's less than 243lbs. you could tell her to close her eyes, step on, hit TARE and viola!
