This is an amazing product! First time user of the product and it is simply amazing. I used it as a base for my rock sliders on my off-roader. Prepped and cleaned the sliders down shiny bare metal, etched and primed then applied the POR15. A little goes a long way oddly enough. It is the consistency of slightly thinned syrup. I brushed it on, it self leveled and the brush strokes disappeared and it dried to hard epoxy like she’ll. I had to scuff it up with sandpaper and coated that with spray on bed liner. The POR15 dries perfectly smooth as long as you do not over apply the product. Like I said I scuffed the gloss finish, and applied spray bedliner and it looks awesome. I waited 4 days for the bed liner to cure and hit the trail. A few scuffs and scrapes and one good scrape, which is what the sliders are for and it was easy to use a small brush after cleaning and dabbed some POR15 back on the scraped area and agin it self leveled and I hit it with the rattle can of bed liner. Blended in excellently and a few areas the bedliner scuffed but the POR15 held strong. Easy to touch up with the rattle can and the POR15 was as hard as nails. Very impressed and ordered some more to redo the skid plates and rear shin guards. I’m going g to use POR15 to prevent rust and encapsulate the metal protection on my off-roader. I’m sold, can’t believe this stuff sticks like it does and is as hard as it is when dried. If you have never used it, I encourage you to do so. I should have taken pictures. I thought it would peel and scrape off but it is as hard as nails, even rubbing against rocks on sliders. It is frickin’ awesome!

If you want permanent rust proofing then this is the only product out there worth buying, It sets like porcelain and rust will not come back. I have restored a vintage Ferrari with this stuff, a fiat 500 and even coated my old cast drain pipes with it. Use metal prep solution first from por15 before you use this and take care not to get it on your skin as thinners or paint stripper will not remove it and it goes a very long way. I can definitely vouch for this product and I live in Scotland near the se where it rains most of the time. I wouldn't use anything else as rust proofing goes as this is the best there is.

Great to paint over light rust and dries to an expoxy like hardness! A little exspensive but worth the cost

Yet more negative review update: The lids won't open again. I had to punch a hole in the liod and pour the contents into another container. I found out also why won't come off: during the sloppy filling and lidding of the can, many times, content is spashed up into the lip of the can where the lid snaps in, which welds it onto the can. Also, I ordered semi gloss black AND GOT FLAT BLACK! I just checked the can label and it says "semi gloss" black!, but its flatter than a pancake when it dries. so the incompetent fools are putting the wrong shine in the wrong cans! review update: The price of the Por 15 rust preventative coating has increased like 50% recently and from what I am experiencing, while decreasing in quality 99%! This stuff is no longer sticking to prepped rusty surfaces like it used to. It sticks like weld to everything (sucha s most plastics) but the bare unrusted, prepped metal and scrapped, wire brushed and prepped rusty surfaces that it's supposed to stick to best. I think they've altered the metal prep formula and it's not working anymore because it doesn't turn anything black anymore like it used to and then after the coating is applied and cures for a a couple days to weeks, it peels right of prepped bare metal and very easily scraps off the rusted, prepped metal with a razor blade, MUCH EASIER than I can even scrap off regular paint! It's pretty much a joke now. I remember using it a year ago on the same automotive project and putting a sander with course paper to it and it being very dificult to sand down through, let alone remove iut with the sander or even a wire wheel on a high speed grinder! But now I can apply it, let it dry and scrape and peel it right off. Huge disappointment old review: I've been using Por-15 to rust proof my old truck as I restore it and it works well except when applied to stripped new steel parts such as a new battery tray. I let the clean bare-metal tray outside to oxidize because jI know Por-15 will stick to oxidized surfaces the best. It had a very light amount of rust on it when I coated it. after curing if I smack it a little and flex the part, the por 15 can be pealed right off with my fingers well past the bent and disturbed area. but it doesn't peel at all after being applied to heavily oxidized, properly cleaned and prepped surfaces except in the imediate disurbance area, where it's been beeten of. Another adhesion issue which I use to my advantage is that it sticks best to all kinds of plastic. So I use it to repaint plastic. I used it to re-black out the headlight bezels of my gbrill in my 1978 f-100. I painted it on with a chip brush and it came out looking better than factory, overall appearance wise. If I clean the part to be coated and prep and brush it a certain way in average ambient temperatures, Por-15 can be brushed on and will level out and flatten relatively smoothly even with a brush. Po0r 17 also works as a cement on Glock frame polymers better than Superglue and JB Welds of all kinds, including their plastic epoxy. I used it to glue an enlarged mag release button made of JB Weld onto the original Glock mag release. when neither superglue nor JB Weld would keep it together on permanently. I did the same, used Por-15, to , finallym permanently attach the beavertail part of a backstrap to the frame when neither polyurethane roofing caulk, JB Weld, nor SuperGlue would keep it attached. Also ,now the company is making better cans and plastic bottles that actually can be opened and closed and sealed without having to destroy the lid after I complained to corporate about the cans. However, even though it's clean and uncorroded, por-15 sticks to the container metal the best of all and it has to be absolutely clear when the lid is replaced or it will stick together and will have to be mangled or opened with a can opener the next time to get to the contents of the container.
