A pipe is connected to the water pump, which snapped when trying to connect it, an obvious weakness. The company responded very quickly and sorted the pump out for us. I had read some of the reviews for the product and did wonder why some people would say the waterfall failed to operate. It is a solar powered pump with a rechargeable battery. Obviously, the solar panel needs to be in strong sunlight not hid under a bush or placed behind the fountain - doh! I fixed the panel to the top of the fence, directing the panel for maximum sun time. I will say the pump does operate in strong daylight. The overall effect with a little imagination provides an impressive functioning ornament. How good is the item ?** A: The water feature does not have an on/off switch. The instructions are bad and not easy to follow, unfortunately made in China. I bought it in a sort of memory to my mum, it was put away for the winter under cover and in a bag. When I brought it out a few weeks ago, I seen that the fake rock plastic has peeled away and my husband will repaint it. We also found that it now won't work, my husband will take it apart to see what the problem may be, but I don't have a lot hope that it will work again. It was lovely when working, but to be honest it was a total waste of money, and I wouldn't buy it again, don't waste your money. Unfortunately everything is made in China and is total crap, just my opinion of course. **Q: Is this quite loud? Will it be enough to mask conversations in garden** A: To be honest I would have a preferred something that was louder. It has a nice sound like trickling water, but not Niagara Falls. I have a neighbour who has been caught numerous times listening at our fence, I have put up a 6ft fence. I would not say it is not enough to mask conversations, but if placed near to the fence where they are, it could cut out some conversation. We found this feature to be a good price and a nice size for our garden.
