I thought this book was really worthwhile, as it questions so many of the beliefs that are welded deep within our subconscious, beliefs that we must always dig deeper and fight harder....beliefs that ultimately lead to a never ending quest for fulfilment....this book is like the ultimate relief and balm for all the angst...the suggestion that we relax into life and surrender.

I simply could not pass up the opportunity to comment on this remarkably helpful and empowering book by Dr. Judith Orloff on the subject of surrendering. First and foremost, I will say that this read provided me with a “happy tummy” feeling all along. From the very beginning until the end, not only did I have the feeling that Dr. Orloff knows her stuff but most importantly that she truly cares about people. She strikes me as a genuine caring and loving person and this alone made reading on such critical and sensitive matters an absolute delight. I felt as if I were in the presence of a loyal friend all along. The contents of her book are widespread and the research appeared extensive. The material content is based on some of her own personal experience, as well as her patients. The topic of surrendering covers many important life aspects from power and money, reading people and communication, relationships, love and sensuality, mortality and immortality, to the the blessings of celebrating joy, all of which require different degrees of surrendering in order to embrace life despite its predicaments. I enjoyed every chapter of this book clearly good for the soul. Moreover, I still use it as a reference guide for all my surrendering challenges. Her guidelines on impeccable communication and her list of warning signs to look for in certain types of people saved me weeks of investing myself in a relationship that was not worth the effort. As a result, I have regained confidence in my ability to listen to my heart instead of giving into old conditioned patterns of the mind. I will admit that at first, when I saw the book had been written by a psychiatrist, I experienced a moment of hesitation. I am not a fan of traditional medicine for certain struggles of the mind. However, Dr. Orloff’s knowledge encompasses way more than the physiological aspect of being. It actually complements it perfectly. Traditional medicine is only her base around which she has intricately woven layers of ancient and contemporary wisdom as well as well-proven caring strategies, without which surrendering to life’s challenges can certainly prove daunting for some of us. She has clearly empathic skills that reach out to people in their innermost being and is able break down a complex emotional situation into something perfectly fathomable for anyone. Her writing is impeccable and sprinkled with humor capable of reframing the most dramatic situations while still considering the sensitive nature of each case scenario. I truly love this book and its author. In my humble opinion, the knowledge contained in it is instrumental to finding one’s way in the maze of uncertainty and fear life delivers at times. It makes an inspiring difference in terms of approaching life’s many challenges from a practical and empowered standpoint as opposed to a life lived by fate. Given my enthusiasm for her work, I am now looking forward to reading Dr. Orloff’s latest book called “The Empath’s Survival Guide”. There is no doubt in my mind that my soul will find as much delight reading it as I did The Ecstasy of Surrender.

I was a little sceptic about this book.. First glance it looked like it promised a lot and I wasn't sure if it would deliver. I had a hard time getting started on it but once I got through the first 3-4 pages I loved it and read everything almost in one go. The style of writing - I honestly didn't think it was for me, at first I was really impatient and I kept thinking "get to the point!" but it really grew on me after a few pages and I love how she uses examples from her own life to illustrate her points. This book has really gotten me thinking and I will need to read it again (more slowly next time). I've got another book of hers that I'm looking forward to reading as well. It's definitely prompted me to look at patterns in my own life and I hope it does this for you, as well. A great read regardless how you use it.

Last week I decided to spring clean, and ever since I've been doing so every day in some way for at least a half hour. I've been revisiting my feng shui, space clearing, and clutter clearing books. When I pre-ordered The Ecstasy of Surrender, I had no idea that I was getting myself another cleaning book. This isn't marketed as a cleaning book, however, it definitely could be. The Ecstasy of Surrender is about cleaning one's soul (or feng shui for the soul as Denise Linn so aptly puts it in her book with the same title). The Ecstasy of Surrender is about the benefits of letting go (exhilaration, empowerment, abundance, etc.). The information is not necessarily new if you've been in some circles, but it definitely is a good interactive guide to study. Dr. Orloff's voice comes through by showing us how to intuitively surrender. Also, she personalizes the topics by putting her stamp on it - quizzes with lists and summaries. A few years ago I had the chance of talking with Dr. Orloff when she was at the Commonwealth Club. This woman is so real (down to earth). She practices what she teaches. She oozes kindness and exudes wisdom. Her warm personality and authenticity shines through in this book. (Revisited) Topics of Interest: The Triune Brain Hormones (Adrenaline, Testosterone, Serotonin, etc.) Getting a Sleep Divorce Being an Empath Listening to One's Body Chakras Movement Deep Breathing Some Things to Surrender: Old Beliefs Self-imposed Limitations Mental Chatter Powerlessness for Being Empowered Low Self-Esteem At over 400 pages, this is a guidebook to come back to and marinate in so that the principles can be integrated. She's very comprehensive that you don't need to read her previous books to understand some previously touched upon subjects (such as dealing with passive aggressive, narcissistic, manipulative, or guilt tripping people). Her previous books (Positive Energy & Emotional Freedom Technique) are optional if you want to visit such subjects in detail. This book is an investment in life 101 and is a fun book to study. I wish all of my (text)books were so alive, rich, and useful. Happy studying!
