I assume you mean the white plastic cross. That is to help hang it on a wall, the slot on the rear of the clock is a little small for some hooks and is also not deep enough for others. The solution, they provide their own hook that will fit.

Hi, pleasedo not unscrew anything. Insert a battery in the back of the clock. Using the small dial at the back set the correct time. That's all I did and my clock is working perfectly. From one useful female 😊😊
