MMS-008 Organic Chemistry Molecular Model, Student Set (53 Atom Parts)

There is no false advertisement here. The amount of sticks for both single and double bonds are the same as the number on the picture. It's the same with the number of Carbon atoms, Hydrogen atoms, and Heteroatoms. The way the kit is designed is perfect. You'll get everything you need for Organic Chemistry from this. Concerns on other Reviews: A concern was brought up about difficulty with removing the sticks. I will admit that some of those suckers don't come off easily, but that's what that little flat piece is for (the one on the bottom left corner of the pic with a hole in the middle). It serves the same purpose as a bottle opener. Another concern was about not being able to make a molecule with a trigonal bypyramidal geometry. If you need this kit for Organic Chemistry, then you'll mainly deal with different hybridizations for Carbon (sp,sp2,sp3). This is all possible with this kit. However, there are some kits that have atoms that will allow a trigonal bypyramidal geometry, but this kit is not one of them. My last kit had atoms that could make five bonds. The main issue I see in other reviews is cost. If money is an issue, I advise asking people who finished with Organic. You should be able to get it cheaper from them, assuming they did not sell their kits to anyone else already. If not, then do keep in mind that the prices on amazon are much better than prices in a college bookstore (or at least in my experience).

This molecular model set is amazing. It is exactly as pictured--what you see is what you get. It's sturdy and good quality. The links stick together very well, unlike some sets where it feels like the models are going to come apart in your hands. The very short links can be difficult to take apart. I remedy this by not pushing them all the way in in the first place. That way they don't get as stuck. But, if need be, there is a link remover tool specifically for the purpose of removing these links when they're stuck. I do wish there was some sort of padding in the box so it wasn't so loud to carry around. I also wish ring flips were easier to perform. But otherwise it is very helpful for me in visualizing compounds for my organic chemistry and biology classes.

This has been very helpful in my ochem class! The number of atoms are as advertised--so no need to worry about that. The only thing that I would say is that some of the atoms are very hard to remove without the help of the atom remover--which I understand, since you wouldn't want your molecule falling off all over the place. It does hurt my hands quite a bit removing them though, so I'm hoping for a good middle ground for some of the atoms. Of course, many of them remove quite smoothly, but some, for some reason, are much harder. Overall very pleased with this product

My son just started a biochemistry class and this set has been incredibly useful. He uses it daily.

Given that the majority of people who will be reading this review will be science people, I'll just make it snappy and itemize the pros and cons. Pros: Great size/ease of travel Well made Immense molecule building versatility Lots of hydrogens Can make condensed or extended models Great price Easy to view orbital interactions Cons: Bonds can be difficult to connect/disassemble; recommend using a lubricant such as Vaseline or mechanical grease to help Not enough carbons in my opinion Can be difficult to manipulate into a specific molecular shape Overall: I highly recommend this kit for O Chem 1 and 2 students; I only wish I had known about this before I wasted my money at the bookstore.

After seeing the modeling kit and almost buying it on my campus I was more than satiafied to find this one on amazon, and for only $2 more than the dinky, much snaller ones on campus. Overall the size is nice, it has the required pieces for any Organic class and one feature not mentioned or atleast I didnt notice was the handy clip that came with it to pull of each molecule. There are people in my class who have to bite each molecule off of the standard tiny sets they bought on campus so overally Id say that enough made this valuable and more than worth it

This was a nice cheap set, everything fit together nicely and suits my purposes. I did learn a better trick for figuring out R & S configurations in tetrahedral models, which I will let you people in on. When you swap any two groups (ex. priority groups 1 & 4, as you'll want to put 4 in the back), just swap the other two (2&3) and you will always end up with the same molecule you began with, in the proper configuration.

The product came as it should and on time but my biggest gripe about it was that the box was heavily dented.

Dieser Baukasten ist super für die bessere Verstellung des räumlichen Baus von Molekülen. Man kann leider nur etwa 4 etwas größere Moleküle gleichzeitig gebaut haben. Die Qualität ist auf jeden Fall super.

Excelente sistema de moléculas orgánicas. Sumamente fieles a la geometría atómica. El único problema que le veo es que son pocos átomos, de forma que no pasas de cadenas cortas de carbono o ciclos pequeños. Para clases básicas de química orgánica esta excelente, así como para explicar la geometría del carbono. Pero para armar moléculas más grandes, ya se requieren por lo menos dos kits.

We bought this as an extension to my daughter's existing set : she enjoyed using that for GCSE chemistry but was a bit frustrated at the size limits of organic molecules which she could make with her existing Molymod set. Now she is doing AS Chemistry and Biology, the extra carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur and oxygen 'atoms' in this set come in very handy and the proportions appear about right. Other reviewers have commented that models can be hard to dismantle, but we've found that the little removal tools is very useful. If this is your only set, it might be a trifle limiting - there are only 12 carbons. And if you're of a biochemical / molecular biology bent, the fact that there's only one phosphorus atom is going to be a bit annoying, given the central role of phosphates in cell biology. Those are the only negatives : it's a well made set that will help students grasp important concepts like isomerism, conformation of sugars, bond strain in cycloalkanes and carbon rings. And as we've found, the sets are rather more-ish as your molecular modelling ambitions increase.
