Review: Great series and in great pristine shape. Thanks. - Thanks. Excellent set in excellent condition. I'm impressed.Im glad I wasn't able to cancel the order. I tried but I'm glad it didn't work. I've always loved Buddy Ebsen. I already have the Cannon series and that's good too. He's in a few of these Barnaby Jones shows. This set is complete and in great shape. No problems. Comes in perfectly like it originally was on the tv in the 1970s. Sound perfect too.

To all the people complaining about this set, I say "STOP IT". I got mine last week and this show is one of the most bootlegged shows ever and these episodes are clear enough to watch and it is the ONLY place you will get the entire run of the show, many places sell 100 or 125 of the episodes in varying quality and most from TV channels like WWOR or SKY TV or other cable destinations but these shows do have cut episodes but you don't miss much of the plot and I LOVE Barnaby as I watched all the episodes as they came on CBS in the 70's when I was young. Cannon, Streets of San Fransisco, Harry-O, Mannix, Hawaii Five-O and so many other great shows I collect are all available for us to collect on DVD in complete sets now. This set of Barnaby is probably the only complete set we are going to get. Mark Shera and Lee Merriweather (almost 80 now) campaigned tirelessly to get this set out to the public. I wish they had not chopped up some of the episodes like Marathon Murders is missing almost 5 minutes of footage (glad I have my original WWOR broadcast) but where else will you find these great episodes in decent quality? When Barnaby was filmed no one knew we would all have 55 to 90 inch TV screen as big as theaters to look at the episodes on. Looking forward to VEI releasing (according to the brochure inside the package) Martial Law, Petrocelli, Matt Houston and a few other shows I already have TV copies of but looking forward to those and more DVD. My advice: Stop complaining and enjoy what we do have which is a COMPLETE run of Barnaby Jones which we cannot find anywhere else, legally at least. The picture quality looks good enough on my 46 inch Sony Bravia and my 55 inch LG as well as my 42 in Samsung TV's. Just enjoy Barnaby please, then watch Cannon and Hawaii Five-O like I used to watch back to back to back before the Jefferson's and Sanford and Son then Good Times came on. Those were the days.

High quality show and very good DVD quality
This is a great show with good writing and excellent actors. The show was on the air 1973 to 1980 for 8 seasons. The quality of the show picture in the DVDs is equal to the quality of the original airing of the show. For anyone stating the quality is not good, they are ignoring the notes at the beginning of the DVDs when they boot. The pictures of post 2010 shows is a different technology and is digital with a much higher resolution. This show was filmed (literally) usiing film which is an analog process. The pictures can only be cleaned up to a point and not beyond. Anyone who has watched shows like this when they aired would understand. I have a good digital television (LG) which shows these DVD good quality shows just fine. I am very much enjoying this DVD set. It is a good buy for the money if you get the entire set. Something which can be a good heirloom for later generations. Nathan

Looks great on my 27 inch Box television.
As many reviewers' have said, the picture quality isn't the sharpest. But the story lines and acting are great.I always loved the 1970's television shows because they have an appeal of class, excitement and just great all around entertainment. So if anyone is looking for an HD quality picture because they have a super large screen or one of the newer televisions with extra features, this set is probably not for you.But if you are someone who is looking for a great television series, with 1970's era cars ,clothing and middle class lifestyle with great story lines also, then you will love watching Barnaby Jones .Quinn Martin made alot of great programs like Cannon,Streets of San Francisco.I also love many other cop shows of the 70's like,Police Woman,Kojak,Starsky & Hutch,The Rookies,Baretta just to name a few. This was a great era for television, music and motion pictures, and rock concerts, and clothing too.I feel very lucky to have grown up in an era of such great culture.Unless you are looking for perfection ,you will have a hard time not wanting to watch the next episode.

"All Aboard the Nostalgia Train..."
This brings back fond memories of the 70s' detective/PI shows I was exposed to in my youth. The 60s' and 70s' were collectively cool decades in most areas (i.e. decor, fashion, music, liberal philosophies etc.). I grew up watching Columbo, Cannon, Barnaby Jones, Charlie's Angels, McCloud etc. When a good deal came up to buy Barnaby, McMillan & Wife, Cannon and Mannix, I couldn't refuse. I'll eventually review all series as I complete them. I already owned "Columbo" so why not keep the nostalgia train running. Here is my assessment: The visual quality and sound is quite good with barely any exceptions considering the era it came from. I was a film major in college so I'm fairly picky but I also an not expecting an HDTV experience given the age of the production. There are a few episodes that freeze up periodically like "Portrait of Evil" and I believe the show after it. "Sins of the Father" is another glitchy episode. In watching the episodes you'll be reminded that in spite of our fond memories this is still very formulaic TV. In nearly every episode, Barnaby is not "the quickest draw in the west" but he is the most accurate. Some "dirty bird" will fire at him first and he'll return fire and hit them in the arm (nearly every time) but sometimes the leg. Very, very rarely does anyone appear to die from these wounds. It's as if the creator/producer/writers wrote this show for a very young audience or they wanted to paint Barnaby as the perpetual tough GOOD guy. If anyone does die at the end, it's at the hand of someone other than Jones. There is a cool episode where Cannon and Barnaby come together under unfortunate circumstances. It is a very well done episode. This does serve as a nice trip down memory lane to my early years and first exposure to mysteries with all these shows. In a high percentage of shows someone gets in a fight, hits their head on a table or object and dies and then the person involved decides to cover it up. There are many blackmailer episodes and they almost always meet the fate of death. This series is not "Mannix" or "Columbo" good as those series have more interesting visual elements (i.e. geography, city scapes, fancy homes etc.) and better sound tracks and overall style. It is similar to "Cannon" in that they appeared to prefer to save money by using a lot of small boring desert towns as their backdrop. Of course there is a close-minded hick town sheriff running constant interference in Barnaby's investigation. Two towns that are featured in many episodes are "Santa Carlita" (surely borrowed from Santa Clarita a low desert town) and "Cloverton". Ironically, I grew up in Santa Clarita (near Six Flags Tragic Fountain amusement park) so I recognize the area well when it is used on the show. California Meridian Insurance is Barnaby's main client. You will hear it often. I enjoyed seeing DeBelle Golf Course in Burbank featured in "The Protectors" episode. Part of why I love Columbo is seeing all of old LA from my youth and even prior to my existence. In later episodes Jebidiah (nephew of Barnaby) and Betty (daughter-in-law and secretary) take on great roles in the agency even taking on their own individual cases with little assistance from Barnaby. I assume it was an evolution of character thing versus health issues of Buddy Ebsen who was in his sixties. The episodes that freeze up normally release but you may need to fast forward or skip a segment to get it back on track. "Child of Love, Child of Vengeance" was a really glitchy episode where fast forward or skipping didn't seem to work so I think I gave up. One episode clearly has dubbed in audio that doesn't sync with the actors lips which caught my eye and once it did it was kind of annoying. But that is a minor gripe in the scheme of things. Overall, this is a very well done set and presented in splendid nostalgic packaging and quality materials.

A great mystery flash to the past
I enjoyed Barnaby Jones a child watching with my Mom. Now I am able to watch those same episodes again. The quality of the episodes are mostly great but at the beginning of each dvd reminds you that the company was notable to remove all of the flaws. It’s odd to see the killer first and then watch the detective work up to catching that exact person but that is what you get with Barnaby, the detective who drinks milk and no alcohol. The casing is great also. The dvds are housed in a large plastic case and there are sleeves together inside of it. The sleeves themselves are made together but they are not clipped in the case. The only drawback is that there is no closed captioning.

This is one of Hollywood's finest series ever
This is one of Hollywood's finest series ever! Buddy Ebsen stars as a private detective who is relentless in solving his cases and ALWAYS comes up with the solution. To watch the cases unfold is just sheer brilliance and it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout each episode. I was amazed at how good this series is and it brings back memories from decades ago when it first aired on television. If you have never seen the series, I would challenge you to tune in and see for yourself just how great the golden age of television really was back then. I'm glad I decided to purchase the entire series and I can't stress enough how great this collection is. It was a 5-star series when it was originally done and it is still a 5-star series today. Outstanding Collection!

BUDDY EBSEN AT HIS BEST!
Barnaby Jones was a fantastic show and a great example of 70's TV at it's best! I own a number of titles from VEI and this one doesn't disappoint. In terms of picture and sound quality it's better than I expected. Sure, there are little picture and sound anomalies but nothing to really complain about. I actually don't mind the snap case with pull out DVD sleeve holder setup, nothing appears to be damaged or scratched. This show is from the 70's, so unless some studio is going to restore and remaster it; this is about the best it will ever look. I received my set from Amazon with a cracked case, once again Amazon throws multi disc sets in box with no packaging. Fortunately a quick call to VEI resolved the issue as they sent me a new case. Five stars for Barnaby Jones.

Super!!👍

Very nice set
Terrific to have all 8 seasons in one boxed set. Each season has its own individual case with episode titles clearly marked on each disc. Fantastic roster of guest stars add to the enjoyment. Memorable opening theme too. Highly recommended.

Exactly what I wanted
Although quite expensive worth the money. A good TV series that I had not seen since broadcast on TV many years ago. A programme made in the years when TV was worth watching. No bad language, no sex and no gratuitous violence.
