Melody Ellison Mini Doll & Book

This is my fourth American Girl Mini, and I am very pleased with the workmanship and detail of the doll. Unlike the original Minis the doll body is plastic, not cloth, but that is okay. I was a little hesitant to purchase because of reviews stating the low quality of the doll and clothing, but apparently my experience is different. This is a beautiful doll. Of course the writing in the book is small, but what does one expect in a mini doll book? The book is actually smaller than the original mini books, and is a paperback as opposed to a hardback of the original. Even so, the print size appears to be about the same.

My daughter collects American Girl dolls and loves these little mini dolls, so I bought Melody when I saw her on Amazon (she will be the perfect stocking stuffer later this year!). Melody is the newest American Girl doll and was just released in late August. Mini Melody is dressed in the same outfit as her much larger counterpart--green/blue dress and blue shoes. She even comes in a miniature box just like the larger dolls and has a tiny book too. Older mini dolls are a bit nicer, frankly, and have nice, glass eyes and seem to be of a little better quality. This doll, however, is beautiful and I know my daughter will be pleased on Christmas morning when she finds a Mini Melody in her stocking. Perfect gift for American Girl fans.

We love these mini American girl dolls. The price is great-knowing you get a great product but not paying ridiculous amounts for the big ones. The detail in their outfits is so darling and their little books! Readable, which seems crazy because their so small. My daughter loves reading the stories of each girl, learning how they overcome different struggles around their families and in their time periods. I just love American girl. Filling my dreams as a kid to have the dolls when we could never afford one, it’s really special that I can get these for my daughter.

This doll is so cute. She is very well made. I actually like the more solid body. The doll I received has a lovely complexion and doesn't look almost Caucasian as one reviewer stated. The little dress is adorable as are the tiny shoes and knee socks. I have not removed the band holding her hair back yet but her hair is soft. I really like the tiny books as well. Too cute! I would definitely buy this again. I am an adult collector but think this doll would do well as a child's toy too.

What an adorable addition to our American Girl Doll family! My daughter and I have a small collection of American Girl Dolls and the mini dolls. Our favorite thing about Melody is her details. I wish she also had a headband like the 18" doll, but we can use some ribbon and make her one. Her little ballet flats, socks, unders and dress are super adorable, and just as nice as the 18" doll version. What we do not love as much is her vinyl body. I feel that the cloth bodies were much nicer for the mini dolls. She isn't our first vinyl bodied mini, and if things remain the same, won't be the last, but there is no comparison between the cloth bodies and vinyl bodies on the mini dolls. Mattel, please consider bringing back the cloth bodied mini dolls. It really set the American Girl dolls apart from other "mini" dolls, and made them more pose-able.

I had mini AG dolls and their miniature books as a kid, and they've improved in two significant ways. First, they can stand on their own with their shoes on now. They would always wobble and fall over, because their legs weren't spaced far enough apart, before. Second, their books have multiple chapters instead of maybe the first 13 pages now. This one has the first three and a half chapters! The quality and attention to detail is remarkable. I got this for myself after a hard couple of months, and it cheered me up. Thanks AG for making me smile since I was 8.
