I have tried those with the washable prefilters that are supposed to be quieter and have plasma technology. They do not work. The prefilters do not even trap anything. The carbons look very thick, but I do not notice odors being absorbed. These Honeywell machines with the carbon pre filters grab a lot of dust and pollutants and they clean the air. I know. I am highly allergic to a lot of pollen, dust, mold and VOCs. I am not wasting my money of flimsy machines. I see that Honeywell is making some that look less likely to trap anything. Honeywell. These are the best. By the way, the low setting is quiet enough at night. I am a restless sleeper and this works well. This machine is for a big area and it also has a molded handle, which is an upgrade to the 300 model.
