How to use the opener to open a can?

You put the sharp into a can and then use your wrist to work the opener back and forth to open the can .. works like a charm from when we didn't have electric . I love it.

You push the sharp metal piece into the can next to the lip and then close the can opener so it snaps onto lip of can. Then turn it clockwise.

Is this can opener stainless steel?

No. It has the magnetic properties of low carbon steel. It is chrome plated.

can someone please explain what the tapper is and does?

You can use it on a can of juice or a can of milk or other liquid when you don't want to empty the can. There are 3 parts to the tapper - the punch, the hole, and the lever. Place the little hooks of the lever under the rim of the can with the punch on the top of the can. Keep tension on the lever while pushing the punch into the lid. Only a dribble will come out of the V-shaped hole. So you have to punch another hole to let air in. Don't push that one in as far, just about half way - enough for air. It takes practice to get the tension and the punch together. Millions of these have been used. Good luck.
