So easy to use
The best thing about this book is the quick color reference on the edge of the pages. You see a bird and want to look it up, it’s super simple to run across the edge and flip through birds of that color until you see the one you want to identify. As someone who is a casual novice bird watcher, it’s great not having to know any other information besides what I glimpsed of the bird I want to look up. Having this next to my chair has made sitting out on the back porch so much more entertaining.

Perfect bird book!!
This is a wonderful book for the backyard bird watcher. I bought this for my friends dad so he could identify birds during his vacation visits to Virginia with his daughter. I also have one for North Dakota that my family uses all the time. The book is small with beautiful color pictures of both male and female birds with plenty of information about them. If you don’t have your states book and you enjoy feeding & watching birds this little book is perfect for you.

Great guide, worth the price of admission!
Arrived today, awesome field guide for the backyard birder. Easy to use and I was able to identify many species at my feeder. I have a Ph.D in Wildlife Biology/Animal Behavior so my collection of field guides is, well, extensive. However, lacked a VA bird guide. My specialty is mammals, so put up feeder a couple weeks ago to learn more about birds. I know there are web sites and apps, however this is so easy to thumb through, why wait for something to load. It is sitting inside on the counter, next to my favorite field glasses. :-)

Good pictures, like the organization
This is a good little pocket guide, I like that it is organized by color, which is usually the first thing I think of when looking at birds

Good for little kids too!
Even though this book is obviously for adults, I got it for my 3 year old. We have a bird feeder at our window and whenever we see a new bird we can look it up by color. My toddler can easily find the colored tabs to correspond to the bird and flip until he finds it. Then I read him the info about the bird. It’s so much fun!

Color-coded & User-friendly
Best book I’ve found for amateur birders!!All birds are organized logically by color (user-friendly) rather than by esoteric bird sub-species like other books (time-suck). Also, there are lots of birds in this small book — double the number as many larger books that I own. And they cover all the common VA bird-feeder birds, which is perfect, rather than wasting ages on rare ocean birds, cormorants, etc, and other birds I’m never going to see at my bird feeder near VA (like other books). I love this book!!
