Lonely Planet Pocket Phuket

This guide contained 90% of the restaurants and attractions we saw during our vacation. While on a limited timeline and budget, there really isn't time for experimenting with meals and activities. If you want to get the most out of a week to two week vacation to Phuket (we spent just 9 days there) this compact book is essential and well worth the cost. It probably saved us $500 by using the price ranking information included with every restaurant review. We also collected notes in the booklet, in the event we or another friend or family member travels to Phuket, Thailand in the future.

Excellent information, up to date, great for pre-planning trip. This and Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guide on Phuket a must have for planning your trip and both appear to be a necessity once there.

This guide was perfect for my 8-night stay in Phuket. I was small enough and light to carry around. It gave me the top things to do and didn't provide too much info that sometimes can drive you crazy. I don't think it recommends hotels, but I didn't need a guide for that. Overall I would recommend this book. Here is my best tip that was not in the book: If you visit the Big Buddha, do so in the morning. In the afternoon the sun shines from behind the Buddha causing photos to come out too dark because the sun shines into the lens. Morning is best since the sun will be shining on the Buddha, plus it will not be too hot! Unfortunately, I went in the afternoon because I didn't know this.

Followed most everything this little book recommended and found it to be such a great resource. The helpful tips on where to eat were the best!

Super helpful in my trip! A must when going to Phuket!

Made our trip to Phuket a joy. A couple of outdated elements--nothing on Elephant Sanctuary--but all advice was A+

If you have absolutely no knowledge of Phuket this will get you started. If, on the other hand, you've done ANY reading up before travel then save your money as this book will tell you nothing you don't already know.

This book has everything that you will need!! I plan on using it while I'm there traveling! Small enough to throw in a carry on.

A really useful small guide to the island. The pocket sized format meant we didn't feel loaded down to carry the book around with us, and there were enough recommendations on places to eat to give us a choice, until we decided to try other places for ourselves. We used the guide extensively for the first four or five days & it definitely helped us to get our bearings. Highly recommended for a typical two week visit.

For a first time visitor it is missing important details. For instance it tells you that travel is difficult in the area but little else in terms of suggestions. Use this only if you want short and sweet
