Review: Dedicated fan 2.0 - I cleared out my previous comments in order to clarify a few things. Whether you are a new or long time fan this post is for you. We all know that Castle is one of the best shows on TV today. I personally started watching from the beginning, why, because this show pulls you in and makes you part of it. The chemistry between characters, the story lines, the hope we can find in everyday life. Simple things like saying "Tomorrow" instead of "Goodnight" because tomorrow expresses hope. Yes, this season has started in a strange place, all the relationships have been turned on their heads. Are you going to abandon the show just like that? Please, give them a little time to right the ship. What are the issues that concern us all this season? Character issues this season. Castle - this season he stepping up and taking down bad guys but somehow hasn't even sat down to think about what would make Beckett leave? Where are the close talks with family that help him figure things out? He knows her better then anyone and she pretty much told him in episode 2 that there is more to her mom's murder but he hasn't connected the dots? Please.. Beckett - after all the close calls and danger they have been through AND she says he is a brilliant partner, she sidelines him? She is a smart Detective but couldn't solve her mom's murder without Castle. Her character thinks in a linear fashion and not outside the box that is why the Cas-kett team was so successful. Espo - seasons 1-7 he has been kind of down on Castle but suddenly they act like best bud's? Ryan - it seems like the Writers are setting him up to be a dirty cop. Money problems? Even the small event where Castle pays him for info is a setup for the future. They are probably going to kill him off. Alexis - season 8 and suddenly she is a disrespectful daughter who mocks her dad just because some no-nothing (Haley) says it is okay? Why hasn't she sat sown with her dad to figure out what is going on instead of having a hate on for Beckett? Martha - same here no 1 on 1 talks with Castle to figure it out? Vickram - please, a poor Castle wanna-be. There 3 weeks until the next show. Sit down and watch seasons 1-7 and fall in love with the show again. Afterthought, the only connection I have heard to Castles missing time is everyone slamming him for trying to win Beckett back and not giving her space, yet he was kidnapped and Beckett CHOSE to walk out on their marriage. Please stop comparing the two situations. Review: Great show - Good dvd

The cast continues to keep you entertained in season 8
I have been late catching up on season 8 but here I am. For all those "fans" posting how "disappointed" they are in the first few episodes of season 8 I have a brief response. For 7 seasons ( approximately 155 episodes) you have been loyal devoted fans yet you want to dump the show into 1-2 star category because you don't care for 3-6 episodes? (By the way that works out to no more than 3% of the total episode of the series.) Those that realize the ridiculousness of that don't need me to explain it out and those that don't would never get it even with detailed diagrams. So I won't waste time trying to illustrate the logic short circuit. I am finding season 8 continues to keep me entertained and I enjoy the addition of the character of Halley. The whole cast is a delight and as I have watched episodes 14-18 I have been reminded how good they all are at conveying so much with their physical and facial expressions in response to other characters and situations that often leave me laughing. I dismissed this show at the beginning of its run and only started watching it 3 seasons into its existence when I ran out of other series to watch while I was overseas. I have been hooked since then and continue to be hooked now going into season 8. Don't be dissuaded by poor reviews. Season 8 is as good and at times better than the previous 7 seasons.

So excited to see what is to come in future episodes!!
I have been a pretty big fan of Castle since I first saw an episode a couple years ago at my grandparents house and then saw that there were reruns practically every day on TNT. Then I discovered that ABC aired new episodes Monday nights at 10 pm and so I would record each episode as they came out starting part way through season 5. I have since seen either all of the episodes or most of them. I really liked seasons 5 and 6, and 7 was ok. I had high expectations for season 8 and even tho I was a little disappointed, I decided to keep watching and keep trusting the writers to fulfill what they said: that the seperation between Castle and Beckett would make them a stronger couple. After watching last night's episode, I am SO glad I continued to watch! Their chemistry was back but it was like better than it had ever been before. The episode was funny like episodes in the past had been, and they were all working together like the Castle characters that we have all gotten to know and love, unlike the characters they had seemed to become earlier this season. I can't wait to see what else the writers have in store for the show this season and I trust that it will only get better from here!!!

An odd feeling final season (prior season spoilers)
+++Warning, this contains spoilers from the prior seasons, but no major season eight spoilers.+++ The best way to describe the final season of Castle is that it just feels off. It does use much of what made the show good to begin with, the case-of-the-week procedural format mixed with serial story arcs that run the course of the season. This season Beckett learns that the conspiracy involving Bracken, who was responsible for her mother's death, went deeper than Bracken, and she gets pulled back into that rabbit hole. As a result, she and Castle do not work together as much this season as they did in the prior seasons, so it misses a lot of the interplay between them that made the show great. As some may know, there were rumors that Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion did not get along behind the scenes later in the show's run. If valid, that did not affect the prior seasons, but it definitely seems like the dynamic between the two was different this season. Toward the end of the season, it was announced that should the series be renewed for a ninth season neither Katic nor Tamala Jones (who played Lanie) would return. Multiple endings to the finale were shot depending on the fate of the series. It was ultimately canceled toward the end of the eighth season and instead of ending on a cliffhanger, the series does provide somewhat of a conclusion for Castle and Beckett but does not really give a good sendoff to the supporting characters. For those who get the DVD set, the extras include audio commentaries on select episodes, a blooper reel, deleted scenes, and a behind-the-scenes featurette. Okay for what is there, but not as much as the early season releases got. Overall, the season is good, but not as good as prior seasons. As I said above, it just feels different in large part because the chemistry between Castle and Beckett felt off or lacking. The show includes a decent slate of guest stars including Fillion's Firefly co-stars Summer Glau and Jewel Staite, and an appearance by Oprah Winfrey. While I cannot say that fans of the show will like this season as much as prior seasons, I do think it is worth watching to see how the show wraps up.

I can't stop watching this show.
I got hooked on this show a few months ago. Kind of goofy, but still a good crime drama with romantic tension in the air. What more can you ask? I tend to be a TV snob, watching mostly documentaries and movies that have some artistic or social quality. That doesn't mean I'm too good for some basic, fun to watch entertainment, and this does the job. Castle's character is a successful millionaire, but just goofy and vulnerable enough, plus ok looking but not over the top good looking to keep him from seeming somewhat believable. Beckett's character is so good looking, confident, and successful that it's hard to imagine her ever seeing anything in Castle, but the chemistry is undeniable and they use that to tease the viewer into coming back episode after episode and season after season. The plots are, for the most part, original and refreshing, but far enough from reality that you have to just go along and stop reminding yourself that these things would never happen in real life and that nobody would survive the predicaments that confront the characters on each episode. I am former law enforcement and know that none of the things on this should would ever happen, but again ... I don't care. Sometimes you just need to escape reality for an hour or two. One of the real surprises for me has been Susan Sullivan. After watching her as the uptight Kitty Montgomery on Dharma and Greg, I couldn't have imagined her playing any other character. In Castle, she plays Martha - Castle’s whacky mother, who is an over-the-top, past her prime actress, with a multitude of character flaws, but who is nonetheless lovable.

Perfect Quality, Dumb Ending
All Castle fans, whether they actually watched this last season or not, know of the horror that is the season and series finale of the show, so if you are here for a review of the content...just know that the series is AMAZING and the ending is FRICKIN HORRIBLE. Literally should have been a facepalm moment for the producers and the writers. All crying aside, I bought the set because my dad refused to buy it (again, the series finale's fault) even though we had ALL of the other seasons. When it arrived, the actual disc set did come in great condition. It was boxed with 3 or 4 other items, had no tears or scratches on the film surrounding the casing, and had all of the DVD discs inside in perfect condition. There were no issues with playing the DVDs, and I finally have a complete collection!
