Fits perfect on my Helko axe. The leather is thick and of high quality. Feels great and helps protect it. I've felled a few trees with it on my axe already. I'm pretty much only going to be a patron of Helko for future purchases.... which is inevitable as my property is heavily forested.

I purchased this for my new Hults Bruk Almike Small All-purpose Hatchet. This is quality leatherwork - the guard is thick yet supple enough to conform to handle. Lacing is sturdy - I took my time and really worked the lacing with a rubberized needlenose pliers to get it absolutely as snug as possible. Nothing broke, no issues at all. Fits perfectly and gives me peace of mind that my heirloom-quality hatchet will be protected against overstrikes. There are less expensive handle guards out there - also, people use paracord for this application. You could probably do it cheaper than Helko Werk, but it looks amazing and will stand up to punishment. Go with quality.

Really nice leather guard. Arrives in finished form that can be strapped up to nearly any axe, though without preparation, it may not last long. In contrast to the other reviewers that have had issues with the lacing leather, I was able to lace it up with relative ease and no breakage. Although the leather is treated by the manufacturer, I soaked the guard piece and lacing in a leather conditioner for a day before lacing up. The soak darkens the leather and allows it to flex and wrap easily. The lacing becomes more pliable and holds up well to a good tightening.

Seems very sturdy. Was easy to install and tie tied. Really like the straight curve at the top. This is very high quality, you get what yo pay for. Highly recommend to protect your axe and make it look really nice.

I liked the durability and quality of this item. I should have waited for my hatchet to arrive in shipping before choosing a size because it does not fully cover the back of my handle. I’m not sure if I can soak it in water or keep drawing it up over time but I don’t think it’s going to cover the back of the handle. Which is not a bad thing because functionally I need it to protect the inside of the handle. I’ll measure the handle first next time and then order the right size. It is a really well crafted item and I would definitely recommend this!

I purchased two of these for each of my hatchets: one in the Jeep and one in my pack. The collar leather is very high quality, quite thick, yet subtle enough for easy installation. The laces were also very high quality, modestly thick, and extremely subtle. I wrapped the collar around the axe handles, laced them up with modest tension, then let them sit for a day to “break in”. The next day I tightened the lacing a bit more then let them sit for another day. Did the same for a third day, which by then resulted in the lacing and collars to be very tight and secure. Works well protecting the hickory handles from occasional over-strikes without slipping or shifting. Looks great too!

I don’t imagine it would fit on any 2 handed axe

I picked up a super nice splitting axe and just chewed through the handle super quick. After doing a little research I found these beauties and they do such a good job of protecting your handle from over strikes. I've ordered 4 of these now for all my axes and not only do they add a nice aesthetic to your axe, they do a good job. Solid product. I wouldn't swing my axes with out one.
