Not like home.
I love gumbo. I am from Louisiana. It is a bit salty and is missing some of the made-from-scratch ingredients. I use it if I want to make a quick pot of gumbo. I do have to doctor it up so it can take like homemade.

Time-saving and delicious
I was a little skeptical of using a short-cut when making gumbo, since usually the best things come from hard work. However the gumbo I made using this was pretty much indistinguishable from the gumbo I've made from scratch in the past. It tasted really good and saved me so much time from having to babysit the roux. I sauté some onion, celery, bell pepper and then follow the instructions on the box with shrimp and sausage, then add frozen okra in the last 5-10 mins. Super good!

Authentic Cajun & New Orleans flavor
I am a cook and don't usually purchase flavorings or mixes in packages because I like to make them from scratch.I bought this item and thought I would try it. Wow, was I surprised!I added it to cooked chicken, cooked Andouilee sausage, roasted peppers, caramilized onions and cooked okra.Wow, the taste is truly that of Cajun cooking and New Orleans! I would love to try it with shrimp too - fabulous product albeit a little on the pricey side.

Impressive
My first box roux base and it didn’t disappoint. Of course I used seafood stock and veggie broth instead of water. I added minced garlic, green onion, onion, okra, andouille sausage, shrimp and bay leaf. The roux is similar to browning flour in the oven. I added a pinch of salt, a little roasted chicken bouillon, Creole seasoning, paprika. I actually made a gumbo ramen. Louisiana native approved.

Easiest Gumbo Ever!
I didn’t expect to like this. Having lived in South Louisiana for 17 years, I was totally shocked how great the roux was! Browned sausage and chicken and added shrimp at the end! French bread and rice completed the perfect meal! I have already reordered!

Not authentic
I was trying to cut corners, I shouldn’t have. I think if you haven’t had authentic gumbo this will work for you. I found that it has the fake cajun flavor that I hate. There’s no smokey richness, it tastes like oregano. However, it does darken the gumbo. Your gumbo will look pretty.
